New Glade at Whiteface

Z
At the Fall staff meeting Aaron announced that we will have a new glade this season on LWF off approach.

It's is called Slide View Glade as it has a great view of the slides from it.  It is between Empire and Upper Mac and have that same North Aspect that holds snow well.  It is supposed to be similar in pitch to Empire and more open than the Cloudsplitter Glades are so this should be a really sweet glade. If you stay right it will empty into the High Country area so it could make for a long shot of trees.

On pow days I like to zig while others zag and head to the summit.  I stay on LWF with Empire being my run of first choice then work my way skiers right thru the trails of the LWF and Mt Run terrain pods.  This glade could be be even better than Empire for first tracks and it will last a lot longer.

The new Freeway lift will end near this so it could be easily lapable when that goes in.

Hope this fuels the stoke - skiing in not too far off now.

It's a logical place for a glade.  Anything there already?

Empire might be my favorite on the mountain.

For me my two favs are Empire and Upper Cloudspin

This map shows the glade hanging a left and coming back into Empire where is widens out.  Aaron had said it funnels into high country which would mean it goes more to the right.  Scotty might know if he was up there mt biking.  My son mentioned that he has skied the mt bike trail that is in that section of woods.

Me too.  It's a trail with a style straight out of the early '70's.

I used to like it more than I do now. It's kinda short and it really widens up at the bottom.

Castle Rock area at Sugarbush and MRG are my favorites for the type of trail you're describing (a type of trail that is rapidly disappearing).

Haha makes sense that I would like it.

Probably been a decade since I've been on it, if they widened it I'm bummed.

Reminds me of snoloco wanting to straighten out Lower Steilhang.

LOVE Castle Rock.

Never agreed with MC more.

Empire IS one of the best (if not THE best) trails at WF.  However, Rumble is the standard by which all long, narrow, twisting classic New England bump trails with pitch should be measured....

Honorable mention to Goat, I suppose.

This article....

....put Lookout Below on the list, not Empire.  I’ll take Empire.  Lookout Below does have the pitch factor, but it’s wide, and the bumps are never well formed.

Wow! We really do agree. I was specifically thinking of Rumble when I made the post. Goat hasn't been the same since the microburst.

One point of contention: I like the weird bumps on Lookout Below because they are challenging as hell and it's hard to get in a good rhythm (so if someone can make it look smooth, damn, that's good skiing).

We don’t have to argue much....it’s not hard making lemonade out of those lemons.

Chin clip... Double barrel.. lots of nice trails around these parts.
That Glade will be just another fun option.

Lookout below is just an odd skiing trail.  The essentially blow a series of whales down the middle of it and never groom it.  The bumps have no rhythm

empire is a classic that never sees a snow gun or groomer
Lob is very public as u can see it from the lift
Empire is super private.  You feel like you are the only skier in the world.  It’s also very tricky to board on empire making it Alta or MRG like
lob might be harder to ski but To me they are not even in the same discussion of top trails.

You can't groom LOB.  Not due to the pitch, but due to the first punter to ski it, fall, slide 300 yards and hit a.....

Lob can’t be groomed because there is not a way to anchor the which haul cable in a straight line

Not sure why it was cut not straight

empire was cut before the thought of grooming.  It is straight enough but not wide enough for a cat and concave
