I just returned from two weeks traversing the South Island. Has anyone ever gone there for some summer turns? I visited a few of their snow fields in Central Otago and they looked like a lot of fun after a meter or two of sweet Antarctic powder falls.
Haven't been but know where I would look for info about a ski trip to New Zealand.
Here are a few examples of discussions Aussies have about skiing in NZ. The first two are trip reports. The last thread is for planning a trip where groomers are of most interest. Gives some idea of the logistics in terms of driving and renting skis.
I spent a semester at the University of Otago on the South Island. Great country. I'd like to get back there at some point. I want to live in Lake Wanaka for a year.
Oh, yeah, I skied Remarkables & Cardrona. Early season.
Funny, I tried driving to Remarkable on my way through q-town to Twizel. Once I hit 1200 meters and the road turned to dirt, my wife made me turn around. I can't believe people drive that in the winter.
Last summer I passed on an opportunity to go to the Snow Farm. I was offered a sweet deal on lodging. But the cost of airfare was, pun intended, sky high.
