One of the greats turned Fifty this week: Scot Schmidt

Oh my...Scot Schmidt turned 50 on July 21.

Probably the one of the first stars to become a star due to ski movies. One of the greats. Any hardcore skiers from the 80s knew who Scot Schmidt was...it wasn't the case for anyone else until Scot showed up. Yes, people knew Stein Eriksen and company., but they had a name before making ski movies.

Why is this guy not in the US Hall of Fame?

Not sure how to embed a video on HR...(please feel free to do it Harv). Busy weekend - I need to schedule one months worth of Monday Attic and Friday Video posts on Ski Mad World to last into September.

This could be the best 3 minute ski video I've ever seen.

The guy is 100% on, and - at least in this vid - not a hot dog at all. Awesome.

I recommend following Friday Night Videos and SkiMadWorld in general. MatPat knows the history of skiing.

The guy is an inspiration. How many 50 year olds are still pro skiers? How many 50 year old pro skiers still have their own pro-model ski? Schmidt does: the Stocki Stormrider Scot Schmidt. Sounds like an awesome ski - just the name "Stormrider" makes me want to have a pair.

What makes the video great is that the skiing itself is timeless.  Except for the skinny skis, that footage could have been shot last winter.  It's the same with music: the really quality stuff ages well, everything else not so much.

Kinda reminds me of myself, as I approach my half-century mark (well over a year away): Still dashingly handsome and intelligent, sensitive yet piercing blue eyes,  every bit the stud that he was in the '80s.
