Online Ticket Pricing Question?

snoloco
For season passes, most mountains determine that age group that you're in at the time of purchase, while others have a set date that determines what pass you buy, (e.g. pricing is determined by your age on November 1st).  If you're buying a ticket at the window, the price is determined by your age at the time of purchase.

My question is, for online ticket prices, is the age group determined by your age at the time of purchase or the time of use?

I ask because I want to ski a weekend at Tremblant after I turn 18 so I can go to the bar and casino.  However, as soon as I turn 18, they charge me the full adult price of $87 Canadian.  The age group I'm in now is 13-17 and that price is only $60 Canadian.

Read some books about gambling between now and then and you can win the $27 in one hand of blackjack!

The only game there with decent odds and they still favor the house is blackjack.  As the others said read something about how to properly play the probabilities before you play or you will piss everyone else off at the table - no kidding about this if you hit when are not supposed to and someone is losing money because of it you are not going to be welcomed to keep playing.

Honestly do you really want to gamble instead of just hit the bars?  You'd be way better off buying pretty Quebecois girls drinks with your money than going to the casino.

Being pretty close to the boarder there I would think there are some bars that students frequent on the other side of the Ogdensburg bridge.  I'd avoid the Cornwall area as its partially an Indian territory and could be pretty rough.  You can also then check out the Canadian Ballet aka peeler joints.

My birthday is in January and the main motivation for this trip is skiing.  Also, when you cross the border at Massena, you're in Ontario and the drinking age there is 19.  It's 18 in Quebec.

Can we get back to the topic of the lift ticket prices.?

So you want to buy a $60 dollar lift ticket when you're 17 to use in another country on a day when you're 18 and would otherwise have to pay $87?

I say go for it. Just make sure you have the names of an attorney and a bail bondsman on speed dial.

I want to get the best ticket deal that I can get legally.  If their policy is that your age group is determined at time of purchase, I'll buy online when I'm 17 to get the better price.  If they use the age that you are at time of use, then I'd buy the 18+ ticket.

Considering you are pretty much the only person posting under 18 and this is a very specific question, do you think that Google or calling the resort tomorrow could be a better use of your time to get the correct answer?

This is only peripherally related but you guys reminded me of an incident from when I worked at Killington. I was working in the mountain dispatch office- basically sitting in an office taking calls and directing patrol or the lift maintenance guys to where they were needed by radio.

In walks a couple of managers with a young guy in tow. They tell him to sit on the couch there and turn to me and they're like "keep an eye on him til the troopers get here" He had some how gotten himself caught using somebody else's pass.

So I was like, yeah alright, and the managers went back to their own jobs. The guy just sat there. I didn't say anything. He didn't say anything. I guess I did a good job cause he didn't budge. I kept thinking to myself, "Dude, just take off. I'm not gonna stop you". There was no way I was gonna try to stop him if he decided to leave. Eventually the in-house lawyer came with a trooper and they took the guy out to discuss things. I have no idea how it turned out for him.

So Sno, the moral is: pay for your ticket. To be safe, you'd better get a full priced adult ticket.

Already checked on google, no answer.  Probably better to just call the resort.

Idk if they have different procedures to call as an English or French speaker.

A few years ago, gore encouraged me to buy season passes for my boys early when they were still of age to qualify for the youth rate even though they would be in a different age group once ski season started.

I'll be interested to know what you find out.  My daughter will be reaching the youth cut off age in a few years.  For season passes, it's pretty clear that the age category is based on the date of purchase.  For a lift ticket bought at the ticket window, it's obviously the age that day.  Not so clear for an online day ticket purchased months and weeks in advance.  I've usually been asked for my license when picking up a ticket based on a Liftopia purchase.  So the age can be checked then.  For me, in a few years it could be a question of whether or not I'd qualify for a senior rate.

My vote is age when you buy the ticket/pass. I figure worst that happens kid is when you bring your receipt/voucher up to window to get your actual ticket they might ask for proof of age....but I'd say that's ridiculously unlikely. And even if they did and pressed the issue, they're going to go through the hassle of refunding your previous purchase and charging you again? Again, I seriously doubt it. Think about folks who buy/pick up a bunch of tickets for their whole family....they're not checking photo IDs of everyone in the party.

As long as you don't outright misprepresent yourself....say by buying a senior pass....it should be acceptable.

But to your point, I present Exhibit A: you buy a 20-something pass. But you turn 30 mid season. You pay the difference and get a new pass? I don't think so.

Forget calling Canada. Just call Gore and ask what they'd do.

Just buy the ticket now at the reduced price.  When you get to the ticket counter hand it in and see what happens.  Let them know what you did.  The worst I can see happening is the charge you the additional cost for a regular adult.

Yes there is different procedure.  If you speak English you must call and speak English.  Si vous parlez français, vous devez appeler et parler français.  Comprenez-vous! merci beaucoup!!

My feeling as well.  You will be breaking the spirit of the rule... but odds are no one will really care that much.  Just don't get yourself hurt on the hill and sue them... If you get "caught" at the window pay the balance and walk away.  The exchange rate is working in your favor here anyway so no matter what you are saving money.
