I'm humored, but not in a funny way, by the reaction of a group of students at University of Texas to a new rule that allows carrying concealed weapons on college campus in that state. I don't think college kids packing pieces is in anyone's best interest.

Amazing that this push for more guns is happening in the same state as the Texas A&M sniper attacks. How in the fuck would more guns have helped anybody in that situation?

I'm of the opinion that allowing college kids to open carry, or otherwise is foolish.

I'm also of the opinion that you can make all the gun laws you want and it won't stop the crazy violence of sick individuals. All new gun laws will do is hurt the law abiding citizen in enjoying guns and the sport of shooting.

Because nobody returned fire on the shooter for 20 min.

Because he was in a tower.

How would a bunch of (possibly poorly trained) people with handguns on the ground help that situation?

Matt...I'm pretty sure the sniper attack you cited was actually at UT, where a guy picked people off using the top of a clock tower on the campus as his perch.

Okay, but imagine the scenario.

Shot rings out, guy drops dead. Panic ensues, people draw their weapons. Another shot rings out, killing a guy holding a weapon. One guy claims another guy fired, and demands he drop his weapon. Police show up and they start pointing weapons. Another shot heard, a policeman falls...

Just seems like a recipe for disaster, but what do I know?

Guy could've gotten taken out after the first shot as well. It could've happened that way. But what do any of us know.

I just have a hard time figuring out how more guns help any situation.

Turns out a woman that took Gold in Rio in some shooting event is a member of the WVU Rifle Team.
