Pico, VT opening day and weekend 12/10/16

This post was updated on .
Well we are off to a great to start of the season. 5 days in so far and this weekend at Pico did not dissapoint... We hope you like our first season edit (yes, we are getting some new gear - we must)

One Day (by Alicia Alba)
It's Friday in December,
And tomorrow is opening day.
Escaping NY on a Friday can be trying,
And beating the rush hour traffic is like winning at a game of Craps.

With relief we make our final turn.
Exhausted we make our way inside,
And settle down to get some rest.

The morning looks wonderful,
With an additional dusting of snow.

Clearly our niece was not the only one excited for Pico's Opening Day.

And after last season,
Things are off to a great start.

Seeing friends,
And wonderful powder,
The day was great.

The next day the summit was open,
And now the real fun could begin.

Even just looking up at the the mountain,
Covered in snow,
Was spectacular.
Winter people are drawn to the mountain.
The mountain becomes your acquaintance.
The mountain becomes your friend.
And then One Day without you realizing it,
The mountain becomes your family.
Pico has become our family.
We leave counting the days, we will see you again.

That was fantastic Ray.

Nice work man, you really captured that sense of community/family that we have at our home ski areas. It's one of my favorite ski related themes these days.

I have some ideas for similar projects, only if I had more time.

If you can create more time for yourself I think it would be cool to see you found a subject and create a more complex documentary style short film. I think you could do something very special.

I think that subject would be Josh Langdon.  ;)

Thank you. This was largely Alicia's idea, though it was a super collaboration. Would love to do a story with you.

Ray this vid  is magnificent !!

Just the elixir i need right now , since i am unable to ski this year battling the recovery from surgery and pretty nasty ache and pain which keeps me off my skis until i can get this resolved , hopefully later in the new year .

So this well done armchair adventure lifts my spirits  and transports me in spirit to the mountains i miss so darn much . Thanks and Merry Christmas to you and your family .

I love Nevada:

"It's PICO PEOPLE!"

Sandro is upping his game I think.

Who writes the narrative?

Nice one Ray.

How much is open on the Summit of Pico?

After the Holidays I hope to get back over there to ski with my buddy that has a house nearby and I want to visit my old stomping ground at Pico.

Hello Warp,
I will for sure let Alicia know too that you liked it. Is this still from the knee revision you had last year? I am for headed in that direction with my right knee which has very limited ROM. So, I really hope that you are able to get back on skis again , this season too.

You too have a Merry Christmas. We would love to meet you one day.

Hahaha.. Nevada is our character.. She at times can be this very shy kid, but really she is more animated than not.

Most of what we do is on the fly, but themes are made up the day of the shoot, or the night before.. Its kind of crazy, we will often see what we want to shoot dreaming, and wake up to jot down sound bites.

For this one, Alicia and I came up with the narrative (though will say it was mostly Alicia)....  She is the poetic one.

We passed on skiing this weekend as we knew it would be the last weekend until Spring that we will see any of our NYC friends, also the kids wanted to see Rogue One and the Nutcracker.... Pico got hit pretty hard after having what looked like it was going to be a great December. Hoping this week Mother Nature does her thing.

Thanks Ray , no my knees are great !! Started With hip replacement surgery , th3 devive is firmly implantedbut the ache and pain radiates from the groin to the upper thigh they thought it initially to be an inpinged tendon ...nope , the thought it was nerve issue.. Nope had 2 nerveblocks , so now it appears to be something muscular which is weirdbecause my wife andi are in great shape and have done PT 4times a week foreever it seems .   So it is an anomaly that is being referredto a team of specialists in Capitol district region who handle hard cases . All. Xrays were fine , ultrasounds fine , biopsies fine and with an titanium implant you cant do an MRI.   They even tested me for metallosis allergy so it is a tough issue to nail down .

All the best to you guys and keep those great vids coming they are awesome !!

Great work Alba's, you really captured that old new England ski vibe of Pico.
I loved those narrow upper mt trails.
Thanks.
