Planning an xc trip to North Lake Tahoe-

greif
OK- Always wanted to go to Royal Gorge, so my wife says- you need a birthday trip- so I am going!

I like to try new ski areas, so I will probably go to a new one each day. The ones I know about so far are;
Royal Gorge!
Tahoe XC ski Area
Tahoe Donner  XC
Northstar (only 35k, so maybe)
Squaw VAlley  (only 18k, but also has Olympic Museum)

For crappy weather days :
Museum of Sierra Ski History

What else is must see or must ski?

I've never been to Royal Gorge but have many photographs as my fatherinlaw went numerous times, and from what he has told me and what I see in the photographs, it is one of the most beautiful places in the Lake Tahoe region.  It has some of the best views and from what I hear has some of the best trails in the region.

Enjoy.

There are vestiges of the ski trails from the 1960 Winter Olympics at Sugar Pine Point State Park.  Might be worth trip in then wayback machine.

@ grief For some additional background on the Squaw Valley Olympic xc trails, here's a piece I wrote a few years ago.
