I headed out just before sunrise on Friday morning for my first trip to Plattekill. I was stoked that they got 15" inches the day before and wanted to get there sometime this season mainly from all the great press the place receives on this forum, all the snow was just a bonus!
I got booted up, got my ticket, and headed up the double. There was plenty of snow everywhere, tracked up from the group who skied on Thursday, but plenty of untouched was left along the edges. I loved the sustained steepness of Plunge, Freefall, Blockbuster, and Northface. My favorite of these was Blockbuster, I must have skied it 8 or 9 times!
I ventured into the trees a couple times. I found plenty of untouched lines there. You had to be careful though since it was easy to get down through the light powder and find rocks below. Another small dump of snow would take care of this. I'm sure there's plenty of glades I didn't find being my first trip here and not knowing my way around.
Even though the parking lot was fairly full, the liftlines were nonexistent. It was an awesome day of skiing, not too cold, not too windy, a few passing snow showers with some sunny breaks making for good visibility. After 20 or so runs, many areas were finally getting skied off and my legs were turning to rubber. It was time to call it a day and head home. Here's a couple more pics:
Plattekill definitely lived up to my expectations. I see why so many forum members love this place and why a local that a rode the lift with asked me to keep it a secret!
