January 17, 2011 MLK @ Plattekill

Plunge looked like it was moguls top to bottom.  If they were soft and inviting on Sat they didn't look that way on Monday.  Some spots looked skied off/thin cover.  Moguls have never been my thing so I stayed on Northface, Blockbuster &  Upper/Lower Face most of the day.   Skied a number of trials there since it was my first ever trip.  I certainly could see it being a blast with more snow.  The trees looked inviting but just didn't seem like they had enough snow.  Certain bike paths seemed traveled, but some side trials had the same skied off/thin cover feel making me hesitant to just ski into the woods.  They had just become 100% open this weekend and with all the snow the Catskills have been getting and the reputation for getting large snowfalls I would expect things just to continue to get better.  Hopefully today's snow and this next storm make it there to cover those spots.  Harvey has urged me to do a trip report I might just get one done before 1/31.

Here it is.  If tonight's forecast verifies, we will have accumulated over a foot of snow this week with the first 6" earlier this week adding to our base as heavy wet snow.  

It shall be a beautiful powder day tomorrow with $30 lift tickets.

"My take on the local forecast is that we should see 8-12" at an elevation of 1200' and up.  More at the highest elevations in the western Catskills.  This weekend should be a mid-winter-like weekend with temps forecast in the upper 20's and snow showers throughout. -Laz"

I think the Cats are looking at 4-6.
With spring conditions this weekend...never underestimate the power of a late March sun..

"We are in this pocket of lake effect snow for the last two days, temps are in the low 20's, and lake effect should continue tonight with temps upper 20's and sun tomorrow and Sunday."

That is cool. Great to see a proactive attitude towards customers.

Thanks for posting that Harv - we will be honoring seasons passes from other mountains again this weekend. Bring your pass and ski Plattekill free.

Also want skiers to know that we'll be open to at least next Sunday 4/10. We could go longer as another storm is lurking in the shadows next week. It ain't over til its over. Tomorrow's snow should get us back to 100% open terrain. It's been snowing on and off all morning. Laszlo.
