From Laszlo 12:05 am:

"We're getting hammered.

About 6" so far as this snow reporter needs some sleep because he will be plowing snow by 5 am.

Pretty windy though."

From LV 7:56 am:

"...at least a foot, 6-10 foot drifts in places, bare in others.  Sustained winds of 20+.

7 degrees, therefore the pow is very light and airy with low moisture content.

The trees should be amazing since no wind gets in there but the double lift is on wind hold due to the wind direction and speed.

Only the triple is open so far."

It crazy. Everybody else gets huge dumps like Harv mentioned...6-10 foot drifts? Where's Ours?!! Last year the Cats got huge snowfalls, 8-10 ft.

Next season I am buying that I Ski New York Full Season-good everywhere-everyday Pass. Take the show on the road. There's lots of snow " around " the Donut Hole or should I say the " Snownot Hole " if you drive an hour or two.

Harvey, you beat me to it. Was going to add in that Platty has 7-10... I skied Belleayre today and the conditions were super amazing. Makes me wish I weren't flying to Utah tomorrow. Well only a little. I've a friend at Alta this week who's complaining it's all skied off and no new snow...

NY the place to be clearly.

Question I got via email:

"Do you know how the natural base held up prior to the snow they had this week?"

Got to love this kind of direct response from the mountain:

"It was mostly gone except for trails to skiers right of the double chair.  We received 10" new 2 days ago and rolled it on natural trails to build up the base again.  We are now making snow on the now famous Blockbuster utilizing all the new guns we installed this year, top to bottom.  Forecast looks good."

Yep, props to Laszlo.

It ain't rocket science -- not telling the truth about conditions is a poor way to market your ski area.

I'm not sure if I'm going to Hunter or Platte this Sunday. I can only get one day in this weekend. What hunter has going for me is that it's cheaper (Big Lift Card) and easier to get to. What intrigues me about Platte is the opportunity for fewer people and tree skiing.

Ah yes... That might be enough of an incentive to tip one over the other.

It's snowing lake effect now and are expecting another 3-5 today."

Re: Plattekill Today

without a ruler the ob is worthless....

why do area measure on top? imo a totally useless observation..the base measurement is the important one

I think if you are showing 8" at the base, a foot - 1100 feet above could be legit.

This txt from Platte at 7:45:

9:04 am from Plattekill:

"We are calling this 10-12" on our website because of possible impacts to this measurement by wind.

There will be some wind blown face shots tomorrow of up to 2' in places and among the trees.

Lake effect still falling."
