Question about lean too's

scottymac
I was wondering, how does one gain access to a lean too.  Is there a protocol as to how you get one for the night.  Is it rude to enter one that is partially occupied?  Is there a way to reserve or register one for a night,  last but not least, is there a web site that lists their locations?  I have never been on an overnight hike and I'm looking for some guidance.
Thanks,
Scotty Mac

if im not mistaken, the lean too's in the adks are first come first serve. so depending on where you go make sure you have 2 or 3 within a certain range so if one or more is taken you have time to walk to another. and always always always have a tent/tarp just in case.

first come, first serve most fit "officially" 8-12.  If someone is taking up too much space you can kindly ask them to clear an area for you. Also, it is legal to camp wherever there is a lean-to by a radius of 150 feet. So if you have a tent, you are money there. Those are the common protocols at most parks in NY, your mileage may vary depending on how attractive your company is, etc.

Not sure where you are camping? If you are in the Adks, and want a leanto go mid-week.

I'm a tent guy. Always prefer it unless it's a downpour.

LOL cute pic.  That tent is the ponderosa model. Fancy tent pitchin too.

I just like being in something I can zip. The mice or bugs can keep me awake in leantos.

Can't believe the Misses is content with that old thing.  Might be time to upgrade:
