RV's and ski resorts

Skiray
Hey all,
Ray here and new to posting the forum but, not new to the site in that I read the blogs often! Great stuff indeed and I do hope to contribute.

In any event, today my wonderful better half (wife that is) brought up our getting a RV and just set up at or near the ski destination so we don't have to worry about hotels, food etc. We all have a gluten intolerance which really makes eating out difficult (and yes it costs more typically). Anyway, I was curious to know if there was any information on which mountains are OK with RV setups. Out West, apparently many mountains accommodate for a small fee and in some cases free.

Thanks again and no, I am far from a red-neck and yes, I have heard that RV means "Redneck Vacation"..  So let it be :).

Thanks,

Ray

Hey Ray. One thing to consider is would an RV would be able to stay warm enough. Their walls are very thin.

There is a trove of information here: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php/170106-The-Comprehensive-Car-Camper-RV-Overnight-Camping-Locale-Thread

Issues include heating, plumbing, condensation, traction, the ski area plowing the lot in the early AM, permission, etc, etc.

Welcome Skiray. Sounds like a cool Mrs.

BTW this thread could be in The Woodstove.

Where do you want to ski?

Plattekill has hookups for RVs that they advertise for summer use.

Not sure if they would give up the parking space in winter or not.

I sent Laszlo a note to ask him.

Harvey: Laz do you allow RVs overnight in winter?

Plattekill: Sure we do. We park them near the bus parking.

Well there you go ! I would make certain to have a carbon monoxide detector in the RV. Their furnaces don't get used much and may not function very well. It's such a small space a little CO would be all it would take.
