Rate This Season So Far

Whatever season it is, whatever time of year, however long this thread lasts.

For me, to date, this is my best season.  I give it an 8, so far.

I've had five days that were truly excellent, and the rest have all been good. My days are down, only 13 total, usually by now I am close to 20.

I know most will be like "BS Harv."  Whatev.

Day 03 - 12/02/19 - Hunter - Thanksgiving Monday POW - 18 inches
Day 04 - 12/07/19 - Plattekill Opening Day POW -  20+ inches
Day 05 - 12/22/19 - Greek Peak - Poach and Schralpfest
Day 09 - 01/05/20 - Gore Mountain Pow Trees awesome
Day 10 - 01/08/20 - McCauley Powder Odyssey - Top 10 Lifetime

This day gets honorable mention for a few runs of untracked trees in the am:

Day 13 - 01/18/20 - Gore Mountain Low Tide Pow, plus full HQ PM trackout

How you doin?

5/10

Best skiing was in early December at Killington.
Pre Xmas skiing at Tremblant was okay.
This past Sunday at Gore was pretty good and I did put first tracks in Double Barrel which was cool.

This is my second season on skis! It’s definitely better than last season because I am skiing harder terrain (diamonds, moguls) with better technique (learned to carve and have upper/lower separation), and falling 80% less often! Last season I skied a total of 25 days. Right now I am at 24 days, and I have a season pass. Shooting for 50-60 days by end of April. I have skied two powder days this season, and four new mountains! #epic

You have been hitting some awesome places at the right time, Harv. I was in Vermont on 12/02 when I saw those Hunter totals, and said, damn. Screwed again.

I was there too Harvey. I am bummed we didn’t have a chance to meet! Amazing day, wasn’t it? What were you skiing? I stayed on Belt Parkway the whole day.

I'll give it a weak 5 thus far.  It once again led off amazingly.  I started off on 12/7 and Magic had plenty of pow.  By the following week, one trail was open.  After that it's been plenty of rain, and very warm temperatures (think 12/28, 1/11).

Part of that is due to work and lack of time off when the snow was good. Part of that is due to the frequent weather related challenges this season has thrown our way. It has been a fickle season that has rewarded those with the most flexibility, no particularly deep days in the trees yet... not that I've even been in the trees yet this season, which is pretty abnormal for me by late January.

You're a stoke meister NYSnow.  Dig.

I'm not great with trail names but we skied everything on the front, regardless of status.

Highlight of the day was Hunter Highlands:

This year has been about like the last 4 years, lots of desire but not much substance. However that’s going to change soon. Off to Alta in a few days with a very old and dear friend.
Don't ski the trees, ski the spaces between the trees.

What he said. The ups and downs of conditions this year have rewarded the folks with flexible schedules. My best days so far were before Christmas. Still a lot of winter to go though, and Twigfest is coming up.

Mixed feelings on this season.  Last year I resolved I'd do more weekends and fewer day trips... hasn't happened yet, and that's on me.  Conditions haven't been great.  Looking forward to more skiing though.

I’ve been bouncing between Greek and Elk. I have 18 nights in so far but 4 have been on bunny slope with kid. Only have had 2 that I can remember that conditions were great. My bases are taking a beating and I have to wax almost every time out not to mention touching up edges.
But I’m skiing and that’s all that matters, got to ski everything thrown at you it makes you more rounded skier. Greek is where my bases are taking a beating but my doing, just to much fun playing in the thin cover.

I have been skiing low tide too.  Last weekend at Gore was as far as I pushed it, so far this year.  There was certainly fun, but my skis are in the shop.
