So Harv, McCauley is great and as I have said, is one of my wife's favs, now you need to venture to Royal. A place where there are no ski boundaries and a family run Mountain that is a labor of love.
Don't ski the trees, ski the spaces between the trees.

Boy it sure is convenient on a Sunday escape south.

Would like to check it out, website is minimal, which is ok. I'll start watching it on the radar.

You will find a lodge heated by a big wood stove, a yummy egg, bacon & cheese Sami with a cup of Joe for $5 and a very friendly bunch of peeps. Not a big place, but a very friendly one.

Harv, I have been there about 6 times but I would hardly say "I know the place". I get down to Royal about once a year. It is almost a 2 hour drive from my place in the wilderness. So, although I would be more than happy to write something up for you, I would suggest you go and experience the hill for yourself.

Skied Royal Friday for the first time, a fun little mountain, about 1 hour northwest from Albany. Royal  has 3 chairs, one for beginners and two basically next to each other, they only ran one of those Friday since there were no lifelines. We counted 5 different runs from the top and few additional ones that break off those lower. The snow on the trails was excellent, i don't think we saw any ice the whole day,  they get a bunch of Lake effect that way and the coverage was excellent. The mountain also features a number of nice looking glades and their policy is you can ski anywhere. We saw a few folks in the woods but it was a little too crusty on top for our taste after the freezing rain they had a couple of days before. The trails are all short just 500' vertical but a couple offer a few short steep pitches.

I'd like to go back when the woods are in better shape.  It was a very inexpensive day especially with our Gore passes, food was very inexpensive and it looked like they had a nice bar also.

Nice?    Inexpensive with the Gore passes?  What’s up with that?

Looks like can get $10 off a lift ticket with a season pass from any other mountain.

A friend is a local at Mt. Royal.  I may want to plan a "tourist" ski safari in NY at some point.  Have different context after checking out ski areas in NH and MA in recent years.
