Ski Train

Has anyone ever taken the ski train to Gore? Whats the deal?

We had a great time a few years back:

But unfortunately it ain't running this winter:
No Ski Train this winter

I wonder how long it would take to ride a Japanese bullet train from NYC to Gore and/or Whiteface? It seems like it could be in the states best interest to create something like that or am I way off?

It would be cool to see an elevated bullet train along the thruway right of way but its hard to imagine it being funded or ever paying off if it was

Thanks Jeff, great trip report. I just get sick of driving everywhere, and sometimes I have to pull over and nap on the way home I am so tired. Seems like a cool idea that didn't pick up steam....
