As a parent and father of two skiing children, news like this is both sad and makes it harder for me to enjoy watching my own kids ski. Some of us worry, perhaps needlessly, but worry still. At the end of each day, I thank God for a great day and the health of my family. It is partly the danger that brings us here; news of this remind us, it's real.
Heartfelt, prayers of peace and solice for his family.

Very well said.
It's easy to be against something ... It's hard to be for something!
Sad to hear about this. From the article it seems Gore has seen far fewer of these than Whiteface. Since Gore has more tree skiing you can assume it's the trees along trails not skiing in the trees where these occur. Most often it is blue trails not blacks as well.
From a % basis a strong skier faces more peril driving to the mt than on the mt
if You French Fry when you should Pizza you are going to have a bad time
I think that is incorrect. I don't recall a fatal accident on a blue at gore, this one was chati-a black, I recall one on Uncas and one on lies, both black.
Don't ski the trees, ski the spaces between the trees.
For what it is worth, I am less fearful for myself and my family on double blacks or hard singles than groomed blacks and all blues. Strong skiers are more apt to take speed on groomed surfaces. Speed is generally what causes accidents, catching an edge in an inopportune time, hitting uneven surfaces, moving over slow snow. Double blacks, while harder and more intimidating are generally skied slower and with more aforethought and presence of mind.
Trees--differnent animal.
Maybe a new thread would be prudent if this line continues.
Just reading this news now and for sure it has made us sorry and concerned too. We love skiing in the glades and I will be sure to talk to my kids about taking as many precautions as possible when in the woods; of course praying that these incident don't happen to anyone of us again.
