LOL. Was trying to get input on whether this product looked decent, and if I should take this guy's money. Maybe I'll start a different thread.

Pretty much lost the micron of enthusiasm I had for this. The more I think about it the less... whatever.
I heard back from "Larry." Can't tell if my price scared him or what. He'll send me a freebie for a test, if we write it up. If you're interested, PM me your snail mail address and I'll have it sent right to you. Just got to come up with 300 words on whether it's junk or quality.

Harvey - I'd give these a go for you, if a bike test is good enough. I try to commute by bike a couple times a week, about an hour each way, and it's kind of boring after awhile, but traffic is too heavy for earbuds. In fact, even without traffic I'd never wear earbuds - all it takes is one Prius and you're roadkill.
I tried a comparable product with limited success -- the "Tunebug Shake" -- http://www.tunebug.com/products/shake/. It's like a speaker magnet that clamps onto your helmet and uses the helmet structure as a speaker cone. Works fine in the kitchen or on the kitchen; but at speed on a bike, or with traffic noise, it was inaudible at best, annoying at worst. This might have been a function of my bike helmet, I think it would've worked better with a closed, skater/MTB style helmet, but mine is an open ventilated roadie style helmet. I'll PM my snailmail address, and you can let me know. Thanks. |

The PR guy wanted to know when I said "road bike" if I meant motorsikle. I assume you are talking human powered. Product on it's way. Let us know when you get it.

I ski with music when I'm skiing alone..i use earphones that have a plastic thing to go around my ear so they don't fall off, but I found last season that it gets annoying and complicated when I have my hat/helmet/goggles on..I'd sure like a set of ear buds that would stay put. I always take one ear out when i get into line for the lift so i can hear attendants and other people..

I don't listen to music when I'm out in the woods. I want to see and hear what's going on around me. On a road ride, I'm not listening to music. Dangerous IMO.

Threadbump, in honor of summer basement cleanup.
I never posted a review of these because they didn't work for me on a bike helmet. I used them +/- 20 times and even tried using a little portable amp between my ipod and the O-tus speakers but no success. This is likely due to (a) loud traffic where I ride, and (b) large ears which stick out almost perpendicular from my head and catch a lot of wind especially at faster speeds. In other words, YMMV, and I think it might vary so much that it seemed unfair to post a negative review. Harvey it you'd like to give these a try or if anyone else would like to try these out on an actual ski helmet I'd be happy to pass them on. (They stick onto your helmet, not into your ears, so this isn't like using some strangers' dirty earbuds.) Might well work better for skiing than for biking for all I know. |
