Storm Speculation 2/1 - 2/2/11

UB has a snowday tomorrow. Second one in their history... and we're only supposed to get around 16 inches? They're probably more concerned of the freezing rain.
I have to spend the day studying and doing homework.  Turns out HV and KB aren't getting a whole lot of snow. Definitely some ICE though.

*EDIT - Woke up this morning with about 5" on the ground, tops. SNOWDAY! Definitely worthy of the second one in history

Hunter and Plattekill are both reporting quite a bit of powder. However, their webcams tell a different story. When there is no snow on the trees that tells me that something ain't quite right. I'm wondering if it's worth driving up to Gore for the day this weekend. It's a long drive but I want soft snow.

all the cats area's mixed..once it's groomed it should ski real nice...

That being the case, Hunter might be the place to hit this weekend, that is unless Platt gets crushed with snow this saturday.

I can't remember the last time I saw NWS ALB county warning map lit up like that for 24-48 hours.  

My guess would have to be Valentines Day 2007.

Before this storm - was the base for trees set at Plattekill and Belleayre? Do they need more?

IMO sleet mixed with snow is better than no precip.

But then again that's coming from a snow starved gore guy.

harv, it mixed at alb and the snow totals have been poor..i think we are looking at a bust

There's 6+ new inches here at x18. 3 inches yesterday. The snow falling now is rather fine grained - Oh, now it's flakes again and coming down hard.

Gonna clean off my roofs today. If you hear a loud thud.......you'll know this Snowball can't fly.

US Snowstorm Seen From Space

Has anyone been having troubles with weather.gov? At one point it would just to counties rather than specified areas. I have a few pages saved in my quicklinks, and it won't open any of them. I tried typing in city,state, and that wasn't working either.

whats the verdict, around a foot at gore?  18 inches at whiteface?

I'd have to say less than 18.  It was a great day, not epic. I think A foot would be about right.  We did get sleet and for a very brief period, freezing rain...definitely cut down on accumulations.  Just after I was saying that it was good base snow, I snagged something and ripped out an edge...anyone have a good all mountain ski for sale?  

Actually what I said was that Gore posted 4 yesterday and 14 today. From what Suds is saying it look like the total should be recorded as 14, including yesterday. Sounds like yesterday's 4" got counted twice.

Suds... those weren't the precious Atomics were they?

In any case ... maybe time for a mid-fat?
