Storm Speculation (Observation) 12/29/15

Storm has ugly written all over it, and yet it's the EC's best attempt so far (lake effect excluded).  Thought we should at least commemorate it.

JTG4eva!
Hey, if this system puts down a base building 6-12 inches of a wet, heavy, gloppy snow, sleet and freezing rain mix that sticks to everything.........that's a good start!
We REALLY need a proper roll eyes emoji!!

Weather Underground, my go-to weather app, isn't budging from their prediction of 8-12 inches of snow for North Creek.
I really hope I don't need to find a new favorite weather app

Even worse I left my T4s at home. Woe baby.

That almost guarantees the 12 inches.

mountain-forecast is also calling for around 14 inches at 1000 feet. They have nailed it a few times in the past. A lot of folks have lowered their forecasts significantly. We'll see.

That sounds reasonable to me Coach.

Not that much blue ahead of the pink and green.

Wind is picking up in North River but no precip in the air.

Well we drove up to VT after not bothering to come to our house and be city dwellers which was fun to do with our non-ski friends but, we are hitting it no matter what the weather gives.  I will take ice and freezing rain :)..

Keeping the faith that it stays snow for all of us...

North River: noise woke me up. Maybe 5 or 6 inches of sweet dense snow, now we are getting sleet mixing in with snow.

North River: Surprising lack of crust this am just creamy cheese, very dense. Maybe it was fell in the early am was pure sleet with no freezing r@in. Whatever is falling now (ain't snow) is so light I can't tell what it is. Maybe 5 or 6 inches? No deeper than 3 am but denser.

in Plymouth, VT we have about 3-4 inches starting to change over - it's a bit dense. Getting ready to head to the mountain.

Hinterland report:   Meh.  Insignificant... Maybe 2-3" of dense powder. Maybe local accumulation varies, but I wouldn't even consider it worthy of acknowledging in a normal year.  But I guess it's better than nothing.  Yawn.

Sleet now.

Nordic was nice in the woods, good skiing, of course a bit thin for XCD.  Garnet Hill is open, definitely heading up.

My setup should be here today/tomorrow for ORS.  Went with epochs as the s-bounds were backordered and I agreed that I'm move focused on toward xc(d) for now..  Looking forward to checking out Garnet!  Do they get mad if you call them Granite hill?

Depends how much actually stuck. Just got back from Cannon near the top of the list at 7" just behind Whiteface's 8". But if Cannon actually got 7", you wouldn't know it.

Not much stuck to the natural snow trails, wind was honking and most of the snow had been picked clean. Brought skins intending to hike and use the lifts as backup. Lifts were on hold and I the skinning didn't look like it was worth it (could still see grass mower tracks under the thin coating of snow).

I hope Whiteface did better. Glad I only had to drive 40 minutes to discover the bust, many folks drove further. But it was white and felt wintery so that is progress.
