The mini-Feb thaw, shall we call it? Thoughts on impacts? Looks like at WF the period of above freezing temps could be limited to late Thursday pm to midday Friday, followed by renewed cold air that should stick around for a while. Temps look like they may not climb above the low to mid 40's, with a mix of precip over the next 36 hours, with a little snow on the back end. While it sucks to have any step backwards in late Feb, it looks like it won't be that bad.
I think the groomers will be quite busy resurfacing come Friday and Saturday night, but this mini-thaw will just be a blip. Could it have bigger implications for the slack/backcountry, throwing down a weak layer that could come back to haunt us? Hopefully not, as the forecast after this right through March looks favorable.

there's already about 4 weak layers out there. We got stuff to whomp and crack in the woods w/ thousands of anchors! Any wide open expanses are super unstable. A brief warm up w/out rain or a little tiny bit of rain would be perfect....
backside of Phelps from Saturday - human triggered but no one swept under
I'm nervous about the pattern here on out. Cold and dry and then.... hopefully it won't be like what was happening earlier this season because that was terrible.

Yep - a little warm weather and a little rain might consolidate the layers and stabilize things, if not we will have to wait for spring corn before the slides are safe. I have stayed in the trees all season so far.
Don't ski the trees, ski the spaces between the trees.
Deep freeze doesn't arrive until Monday. Hopefully with a couple days before it locks up some of the water will drain out of the surface and they will get some good grooming in....and maybe things won't be worse than very firm.

Neville Chamberlain couldn't have said it better.
