The Whiteface Slides are OPEN

at around 12:30 I skied slide 2 and cut over to 3 thru the trees.  It was the best conditions i can ever recall in the slides - i did not hit a single rock and the powder was deep though not all that light.

I'll add some photos when the person i was skiing with sends them to me later.

Also the top of the bowl above Slide 1 had a pretty large avalanche sometime between 11 and noon.  I didn't see it slide and it doesn't look that serious from the lift but once you are below it on the traverse you can see the slab was several feet thick.  The fracture line is a couple hundred feet long.  The avalanch stoped short of the traverse.  The very top looked pretty heavily wind loaded so i'd be very careful coming in from the highway if anyone is thinking of doing that.

Do you think they triggered that slide on purpose for safety? Or do you think it slid naturally?

Slides opened again this morning. Looks like a great day for it.

It was pretty perfect. Skied 1 thru 4 and I'd have to say that 4 skied the best. Even the traverse over to 4 was sweet. Great day.

I was wondering if they opened yesterday. Wonder if they'll be open this weekend. AC is heading up that way. Could be firm as cold weather is coming in.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 33. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph.

Saturday Night: Clear, with a low around 6. Calm wind.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 39. Calm wind becoming west between 5 and 8 mph

Wondering if a high of 39 is going to be enough to soften. The shaded areas at Gore yesterday stayed firm until it hit 50.

I skied slide 2 yesterday. All I can say was fantastic.
