The day to not go to work 3/17/11

The first nice n sunny warm springlike day was forecast for St Paddy's day. EDeO emailed a few days prior to say he and a few friends were taking the day off from work for a "ski holiday" at Gore. Seemed like a good idea. Rochester Mark was on board too, so I met him just after sunrise in Rome.

Got to Gore as it was ripening in the blazing sun just before 10am. 9 of us crowded the trails wherever we were; We started with a Topridge which was flat and creamy. Then up to the Summit where everything was getting creamy. Chatiemac, hawkeye were great. Double Barrel was so good we did it 3 times. Rumor was super sweet and soft from the top of the headwall all the way down. Lies skied like buttah.

The on-map glades all skied so sweetly. Glades with the most traffic skied well, but the lesser-traveled off-map glades were punky and rotten and required extra care. Our group of 9 packed down some of these places and made them nice for the next round.

We ended our morning and our afternoon with runs down Snoopy Chutes and Chatterbox...a really nice finale after so many soft spring runs in the sunshine on the upper mountain.

How warm was it? Based on the temps in the flatlands, it must have been upper 50s or more?

At those temps, you might as well stay on the map.

Today (and Tues) definitely looked like the day, all week.

Love the pic of Rochester Mark in his tee shirt flyin off the bumps.

Also love the dedication evident in the drive/ski ratio. I'da done it for sure.

Thanks for the report PDQ.

Rochester Mark was there on Tuesday with both of sisters. He said it was good, but took longer to soften. Temps were definitely in the 50s.

Because the snow is melting from  underneath, the off-map glades were definitely sketchy, though Snoopy Chutes delivered. I don't recommend the "top secret" off-map trails.

We also met up with Bobbie, the ski model in the 1991 brochure.

She is just as stylish now as she was back then. As you can she, is wearing the more modern basic black.

The dark side was closed, as they don't run the lift on weekdays. That should be good to go for the weekend, as long as it warms up over 40 degrees. Maybe we'll see you then.

Harvey, the words coming out of my mouth at that moment were something like "OH S--T!" but I managed to stay up and not wipe out! All in all an off the charts day! A great group of people too. Off to Utah next week to ski with Rippa Sister and my two boys, can't wait. Hope to see you in April.

Not very often do you see R Mark in the backseat. To his credit, he did recover from that well. I just liked that it was a cool action shot. Another picture of R Mark skiing perfectly would be boring. I have tons of those

It was a great action shot. And you know as well as I do that you could have plenty of those kind of "action shots" of me if you wanted to! Thats the beauty of still shots, out of the 10 or so shots of a person you can weed out the 9 bad ones and everyone looks like a hero! Gotta love it.

I don't know anyone enough to connect faces and names (Except Mr. LGK), but I saw you guys on Thursday as you were getting ready to take the photos on Lies.
If you are having fun, you are doing it right.

Twas indeed an amazing day at Gore. I have a bunch of videos I'm going to be posting in people's trip report threads, so when you see random Gore stuff coming to the top, it's me.

This is just a short clip of Rumor from that day. Might have been the best spring day all year- weather was odd after that day. Kept staying crusty on top, then we just got owned by rain and before we knew it the season was dead.

It's on Contour's website, so I don't think I can embed it. Here's a link.
