While that is quite nice I would rather have this:

2014 RS6 Avant - 533hp/516 lb-ft - 0-60  3.8sec, 1/4 mile 12 sec, European combined cycle: 24 mpg

For sure, but I don't think you can get that in the USA, can you?

If you know X this is totally his fantasy car. His current car, but newer and on mega-steroids.

So is this the fantasy car thread, or does the iron have to be available in the US?

Sadly not available in the US. Audi does not sell the A6 wagon in any style in the US market anymore.

The hottest car ever - vintage 1970's Detroit Iron (and a little aluminum) - there's a reason why they don't make'em like they use to...
If your going to roll in a Vega at least make it a Cosworth

Sadly, my fantasy vehicle is also unavailable in the U.S.  Subaru DIESEL Outback with 6-speed manual.  47 mpg.

That Audi looks really nice, but low profile tires can be sketchy in snow.

Yes - I have been waiting and waiting for them to bring that stateside. Unfortunately they feel there is no market for it in the US and they can't meet the emissions standards anyway without going to urea injection.
These Subaru guys ought to get out of the office once in awhile.  Then they'd see how many Diesel VWs are on the road, at least in the northeast.  I think the market is managing to cope with urea injection.  Unsure whether Mercedes uses similar technology.

VW's technology uses no injection, everyone else uses urea. Even big trucks now have to use it to meet the latest emission standards. The issue though with diesel is that even though you get better mileage, the fuel is a lot more expensive to the extent that it wipes out the financial benefit. From a oil usage perspective it takes more feed stock to make diesel so it also does not help there. The new standards though make them burn very clean. What I like about the subi diesel is the towing capacity and low end torque.
The VW Jetta/Sportwagon do not use urea.
The VW Passat and the Touareg do use urea. In the Touareg the urea lasts roughly 10k miles and the tank holds about 5 gallons. You can buy 2.5 gal at a VW dealer for around $13. They sell it at truck stops also.
Diesel Mercedes/BMW/Jeep GC  use urea also.

Around here in NJ diesel can cost less than premium this time of the year.

I didn't know that only some VWs use urea technology, my bad.  Insofar as fuel costs, from what I've read, the higher cost of diesel is amortized if you own the vehicle long enough.  I tend to drive vehicles until the wheels fall off.  192k and counting on the incumbent Subie.
