Re: Today's Hike

Walked to Canada in intermittent snow showers with my Old Lady...  no accumulating snow, but it was the kind of fall weather that gets you really stoked for the upcoming snow season.

We set camp @7K in a majestic spot within the ONF's Pasayten Wilderness.  The skies cleared, temp plummeted into the 20's and it was a frosty morning....

We summited Armstrong Mountain @8.1k and walked across into B.C.  The left side of the pano is the US, the right is Canada.  It's a very tundra like environment:

Walked down and up through a burn from 2006... thought this was an interesting shot

Think snow!!

NEPA, are you living in BC these days? I thought you were over on the East Coast?

Montage.... the only place I've ever skied that looked down on a city.  I thought that was odd from being used to looking out at woods.

For sure... quite often from 2007 to 2009.  I loved it there... often times poorly managed, but at the end of the day, it was only 10 minutes away.  When my Old Lady and I lived down in Scranhattan, we spent many a Tuesday night lapping the North Face lift.  It was truly fanatical... Mostly bullet proof man-made with good helping of death cookies spinkled on top... the experience made me a better rider.   It also makes me appreciate Cascade storm cycles.

During the day... you can see clear across the Wyoming Valley to the Taylor landfill...  We used to say Montage is French for "You can see the Dump from here!"

In the Blewett Pass area yesterday... rain/snow on and off most of the day.

I love fire lookouts... this one is a classic (lookout is barely visible in the center of the frame)... just above the clouds today at 5200 ft

Ridgelines poking through just above the clouds

Sweet ski spot a short distance from the pass... just add snow!

Deep in the Swakane Wilderness today... (great spot for Big Horn sheep hunting only a few miles outside of town) Haven't seen more than brief periods of sun for a few weeks.... some snow above 6k.... lots of snow above 7k.

Enchantments from point 5402.  The ridge in the background tops out at about 9k while the valley bottoms out at about 1k.

Lyon Mountain, almost a week ago.  60 degree temps?  Buh-bye.

2:15 to the fire tower; 1:30 down the hill.  The last 15 minutes or so are steeper and in a creek bed.

Pre-season snow sighting in the Central Cascades @5.6k

All good Brownski.  Thanks for asking.  My wife is pulling the sutures out tomorrow.  Been submerged in salt water for a few hours a day for the past week... the water has helped things heal-up nicely.
