Cirque doesn't need to be clear cut if it is so unique.  I would think that if any glade got clear cut, it would be Boreas.  They have approval to cut trails on both Cirque and Boreas.  However, they ran out of money and made them glades instead.  Still, no matter how unique Cirque is, it still doesn't change the fact that Burnt Ridge has the most crowded trails of anywhere on Gore, besides maybe Sunway.  This is especially true with racing on Echo as everyone needs to ski Sagamore.

What are you talking about? In all my time at Gore, Burnt Ridge seems the least busy.  I end up going there to avoid the crowds.

Seriously, sno, we don't act like we know which trails at Mountain Creek are the most crowded. Maybe you should leave the Gore commentary to people who know what they're talking about.

I have to disagree on this one also. In all the times Ive been up there since they opened Burnt Ridge, weekends/holidays/weekdays, Burnt Ridge was maybe as busy as the rest of the mountain only one time. It was a beautiful sunny early march weekend day and the snow had really softened up from the sun exposure early in the day there and people migrated over.

On weekdays... well should I say Thursday and Friday when its actually opened weekdays, its a ghost town.

It seems like just about every thread is turning into trying talk common sense to sno and his campaign to turn every mt into Okemo or some place in NJ that I can't recall the name of that Scotty uses as a punch line.

Snoloco my thoughts are that when you start a thread its best to act as more of a moderator and try to get everyone ideas not just push your view point.  Try that and see how it works for you - you might learn something.

I too would like to see the Topridge skier's left trail cut that exists on the old plan.     I think that trail would bring more folks over to topridge, easing the crowding on BR.....  Keep the trail narrow and the trees will block the sun a bit.

Eventually  Gore would  see additoinal lines "appear" off that side, which ultimately they can add to their map.    Condsider it a 10-15 yr plan.

Manging trails like this reminds me of how I think sidewaks should be built on big campuses.     Don't put them where they look nice or are at perfect 90degree angles.    Let the people walk paths, then lay down the concrete where the paths wear deep.  Customer's choice.

I have never skied it, but what about putting snow on and opening the bottom of Tannery to get back to base.  It would be nice to take that route after skiing Straighbrook or Topridge, over riding back up to go down.   ...OR is it way too flat, uphill? Swamp........whats the deal there?

Tannery isn't that bad at all. It's definitely no worse than pipeline.

Good idea about keeping the trail narrow to prevent sun exposure. Not enough skinny trails anymore, it would be great to have a twisty, narrow diamond winding down to the Topridge chair.

I'm with the Jersey Kid on this.  Skiing should be done on a standardized surface with standardized dimensions - like tennis.  Wide, non-nondescript trails, graded to spec, should be cut and blasted into the sides of every mountain.  A Big Mac should damn well taste like a Big Mac, Goddamit!

Sno's ideas are half-baked, his premises and assumptions are demonstrably wrong, and he stubbornly resists our efforts to enlighten and educate him. I'm just about done trying to do the latter.

I'm not talking about the liftlines.  I am talking about how a fancy 5 million dollar high speed quad has way too much capacity for only 2 trails.  The lift may be ski on, but if most of the chairs have people on them, the trails will be crowded.  When I skied it the first year it was open before Sagamore had snowmaking, the lift was ski on and running lots of empty chairs.  When we skied Echo, it was just as crowded as some of the East Side trails.  I went there in March of 2013 and Burnt Ridge had racing on Echo, but with the trail open.  The lift was running close to capacity and Sagamore was packed.  I didn't ski Echo, but I am sure it was just as bad.  If that lift runs close to capacity, the two trails will be packed.  If there are  more trails, they will have less people and that will be better for all.  There is massive undeveloped acreage on Burnt Ridge to be able to accommodate double the number of trails that they have now.  Cut all the approved trails and put glades in the rest of the acreage wherever they fit.  As for the state constitution not letting them, I think that is a BS law that seriously limits WF and Gore's potential to compete with Vermont.  Even if Gore went with a high density trail layout like Mount Snow, it would still be a needle in the haystack compared to the rest of the Adirondack Park.

True, but it's a law that's still in effect. Who knows how Gore/Face will spend their remaining allotments.

That law that prevents them from competing with Vermont is also part of the machine that keeps them from ever having to worry about going out of business.

Me too but my suggestion is that if he (or anyone else for that matter) start a thread be take the moderator approach and spur discussion don't just try to dominate it with one view point.  I always take that approach with threads I start.  On others threads he can wax all he wants about groomers, cushy chairs and the like
