Trail Map Changes for 14-15

snoloco
Gore and Windham both have their new trail maps out for this year.  Gore's shows the Adirondack Express 2 as a quad and shows the Abenaki Glade.  From what I saw, the Abenaki Glade if cut into a trail will not reduce the amount of skating you need to do to get to the Ski Bowl.  The map is not drawn to scale, but it shows it dumping into Pipeline Traverse way before Barkeater.  I hope that Barkeater becomes the trail and not Abanaki because there really needs to be a way to the Ski Bowl without having to push with your poles for a mile.

Windham's shows the new Wolf's Prey trail which branches off Wraparound.

Perhaps  you might consider a racing tuck as an alternative to pushing with your poles.  In skiing we don't push nothing.

Ski you on the hill.

You can tuck all the way down one of the North Side trails when they are hard packed and no matter what, you will loose all your speed and have one long skate down to the Ski Bowl.  I always try to go through Barkeater now to get to the Ski Bowl, but it isn't always open.  At least with the Lower Cloud Traverse you can avoid it by taking the Topridge Triple and you can make it through by tucking on Cloud.  On Burnt Ridge, you can cross over from Twister (as long as the racers haven't claimed it) to Echo and tuck all the way down and make it to the BRQ without loosing speed.  However, when the Racer's take Twister, there is no way to Burnt Ridge without walking or poling.  It is not that I can't physically do these traverses, it is the fact that it is incredibly annoying to waste your time on long flat trails that are rated as blues and require you to push with your poles to ski.

I propose a challenge.

Neve vs Snoloco from the bottom of the North Chair to the Ski Bowl.

He/she who gets there with the least amount of whining wins.

Weird part about that new Gore map is that it looks as though you can't get to Burnt Ridge from the ski bowl. Huge mistake by whoever made that map.

What I heard from a year round employee.
Abeniki will be the trail to connect.  They were going to cut it this summer one groomer wide but had to much on their plate.
The map does a bad job of showing where it will exit, he said it will come out below the flat, past the building.
That is all

I just noticed that.  Very very poorly drawn map.  It is going to need fixing before they print them.

It will be nice to have a way to get to the Burnt Ridge without the poling. That's clearly the weakest part of the mountain layout ever since Bear Mountain made the Cloud Traverse optional.

Nice catch. It will be interesting if this is on all the trail maps they printed. They should hire you to proofread the map in the future.

Yikes. Wonder how that was missed. I would have to think if they published it on the site then its probably gone to the printers already. BBA and Newts are on there too. Glad to hear about the location of abanaki. It's a needed trail for sure.

They don't want to do that. A bunch of glades will mysteriously disappear from the map.

Brilliant!

Perhaps this is an (accidentally) purposeful way to keep people away from the ski bowl. If so, thank you to whoever you are.
