Tuckerman's....

JTG4eva!
Anyone making plans?

Over the past few weeks I've learned two guys I play soccer with are interested.  My brother and I talk about it most years.  Looks like it's time to stop talking and start doing.....so the discussion is on for our group from Dutchess Co.  May not come off, but I intend to make a go of it!

Anybody else planning a trip to Tux?  Looks like we are targeting the first two weekends in May as possibles.

My best shot looks to be June. Not sure what will be left by then but... looking forward to your report.

The whole thing is a bit long shot for me, but I say if you have good weather links for MTW post them and I'll add them to the JT's post so we have a way to easily keep tabs on conditions?

Recent Uploads of Tuckermans Videos! I have never done Tuckermans before, would love to give it a try! One of the videos has the "Sherburne Trail" and little headwall, is that part of Tuckermans also?

The Sherburne trail is the trail down from HoJo's to the Pinkham Notch base. So, technically not part of Tuckerman Ravine, but definitely part of the experience.

I'm planning on that weekend too. May 16th is my birthday and I've never skied on my birthday. Time to do it.

My birthday (Jan 8) is well placed for skiing, great excuse to go.  Somehow it is always fun.  Highly recommended.

I'm needing at least two more ski days this year. Options for me are hiking Gore, K and just maybe Tux.  It's a long way but I ain't getting any younger.

I'm probably hiking Pico on Sunday (4/26) and Gore next Saturday (5/2) if those days work for you (and Gore still has snow by then).

sherbie has to go at least half way still, no? little headwall is not surprising this time of year.

Correct, the report says the Sherb is closed from the lower switchbacks which means it is still open more than halfway, some years it is closed completely before May so that is pretty good. I don't recall the little headwall ever making it into May and it is usually very touchy even in April. The ravine was listed as Considerable yesterday, great for long term preservation but bad for April spring skiers. Since I am currently suffering from a toe issue and can't ski, I approve of this weekend's weather!

I think I might have to call an audible and go this weekend instead. Forecast for Mt Washington looks really good as of now.

We will be there May 7-10.  It's traditional for our family to go over mothers day weekend.  My wife is a mother, so this is her gift.

Never been to Tuckerman in winter so I don't know the drill. In winter you can skin from the road.  After the sherbie is melted out...  you use hiking boots to walk to the snow, carry your boots in your pack? Then skin when you get to snow?
Then on subsequent runs you boot it back up?  (How does that go with a duckbill?)  How do you get between the various runs?

Sorry for the JONG questions, alway been curious about this.

Last weekend most people who hiked up had their boots clicked into their bindings and carried their skis in an A-frame up the Tuckerman Ravine Trail. With the really warm temperatures this week I would think very little, if any of the Tuckerman Ravine Trail will be skinnable by this weekend.

All of the runs kind of converge at the base of the bowl, so once people finish their run they just choose their desired boot pack and head back up.
