The below was sent to Facebook friends from WF today. It it not clear that if this is a April fools day joke or what but considering Orda is building a conf center for huge $'s while cutting back else where so maybe this is for real.
In my opinion this would be a waste of ORDA money that is sorely needed just to run and maintain the mountain. We need a new LWF lift and they are seriously considering this??? It would never run because it would exposed to the wind and with a 20 min time in a 52 person tram (one car going each way at a time) this could move a whopping 156 people an hour. That is not going to eliminate traffic. This would be a boondoogle of the highest order. Proposed Village-Mountain link gaining momentum. Once thought of as an impossibility, the proposed plans for an efficient link from the Village of Lake Placid to the summit of Little Whiteface has been slowly gaining momentum at the state level. The proposed tram would be able to carry 52 people and equipment to the summit of Little Whiteface in as little as 20 minutes. Lift tickets and equipment rentals would be available in the Village prior to departure for Whiteface. "Despite these difficult economic times, it's exciting that the state is considering funding this resource," said ORDA spokesperson Jon Lundin. "This has been on the ORDA board's agenda for quite a bit of time because the board realized this project's economic impact for Lake Placid. This will also ease the traffic congestion in the Wilmington Notch." Several organizations were in agreement that this would eliminate road wear on Route 86 and also have a positive environmental impact by reducing the amount of cars, buses, and shuttles on the road during the ski season. Whiteface could possibly see an increase in visitors that otherwise might be reluctant to make the commute during extreme conditions.
A true measure of a person's intelligence is how much they agree with you.

That's got to be a joke ... Just based on the estimate of 20 minutes to cover a distance of approximately 8 miles, it would need to travel at a minimum speed of 24 MPH. The Peak 2 Peak at Whistler/Blackcomb travels 2.73 miles in 11 minutes.
There's an aerial tram in Palm Springs, CA that can travel about 21 MPH, and that's without wind, etc.
It's easy to be against something ... It's hard to be for something!
