Watch out for Motorcycles!

Cold, but nice day for a ride.  Going through Schuylerville, some putz was completely oblivious.  My bike is not invisible.  Sounds are from a combination of ABS and skidding on gravel due to road construction.

Holy moley. I'm going to assume you had no stop sign.

It would have been hard for me not to tap on his glass to say hello after, to give a friendly reminder. Overall the world is a better place without me on a motorcycle I guess. I worry about my many friends that have gotten in to riding the last few years though.

Be safe out there. Defense, defense.

I know that intersection well and the stop sign is for the car, not the motorcycle.  Good thing you were aware of your surroundings!

A buddy of mine at work bought my Brother's bike, 750 Yamaha. He's experienced with dirt bikes, atv's, snowmobiles, etc., but never owned a street bike. I told him to ride as if he were invisible, I guess "everyone on the road is trying to KILL me!" takes it one step further, good advice. My Son just sold his bike, I have mixed feelings about it, but I'm happy not to have to worry about some old lady turning left in front of him. Riding a bicycle on the streets is even worse, talk about no respect. I've had people pass me, and then turn right right in front of me! What are they thinking? They just passed me, they must know they're cutting me off, apparently they don't care. Be careful all you riders out there, it's a crap shoot no matter how carefully you ride.

I got my motorcycle permit a year ago, and still have never ridden a street bike. Tons of experience on ATVs and dirt bikes, but never got on a motorcycle. I know too many people who have gotten killed on them, and everyone who hasn't, has a story just like that.

My Uncle got one two years ago when his daughter passed away, kind of out of a "life is too short" thought. He used to ride it from Bayport out to Southold to work every day, started getting more and more scared, and it back to driving the truck.

As others have said, I've been told to ride as if everyone is trying to kill you.

I started riding motorcycles in my 40s.  I may have died from "testosterone poisoning" at your age.  Thoughtful defensive strategies and risk management are key to making MC riding less dangerous than the statistics say.
