Nice report, Mike. You were on skis, which is what counts. Look like perfect conditions for the Charger BC

Oh I love this kind of skiing - I didn't see anyone until I was about 10 min from the car at the end, and it was another guy doing the same thing as me.  The woods were beautiful and I got my ski muscles worked out.

Chargers, Yup - if you could find the steepest shot around.  There are gullies in there, but I wouldn't go down them - not only are they steep but they are not very clean of logs (leg breaker types).

Most of this terrain is skinny ski friendly and if you go off trail your 112s would be more than adequate.

I'm going to guess that the guy you saw was David H. He told me he was going there. He knows about this forum. I don't know what his actual screen name is.

Nice TR Mike.  Good work.. Glad you scored.    oh, and what SBR said.  Charger BC's... Not just for the down.  (They tour so well in the ungroomed deep.  Rocker makes em rise up and then they float on top.  Basically really, really fast slowshoes.

Zoinks - you are starting to scare me Dave   They TOUR well!  I was pushing a lot of snow with my skinnies.  No glide at all unless I was going down a hill.  They rise right up when I lunge forward but then you sink down 6 inches as soon as you weight them.

I'd need some massive boots to control those things.  That picture SBR posted looks more like a snowboard than a ski to me!  I'll strap my feet sideways to that plank!

Once you get back in your own track it's effortless though with XC skis.  Or if the snow isn't so heavy.  Geez even all the guys at Snowridge were sinking to their nutz on their fat Alpine boards...  I think it was just no winning with this snow.  Once it was busted open it was great though.

Yup.  That's what I said.  Sticking to it, too. I know it would seem counterintuitive, but their sheer surface area wins the day in fresh, especially early season when you need to stay above the nasties.  As for boots, I pair my Charger BC's (mounted with G3 Targas/soft cartridges) with Garmont Liberos - they're older 2 buckle boots one step up from the Excursion.  (Note, they're modded with a high T-race liner, and a power strap added as a third buckle. )  that's more than enough of a match for the Chargers... Again because they're so light.
