Great tournament! Today’s game was good, but you could see the fatigue, especially from Croatia. It’s a long road to the finals.
Gotta agree with the consensus that this was the most entertaining Cup ever. Definitely of the last 30 years. Much drama. Much magic. The “set piece” (free kick, corner kick, penalty kick) really has become so key to success. So much that the run and gun swagger of Brazil, and to a lesser extent Mexico and the African nations were flushed out by the round of 8.
People hate the flopping (and examples like Neymar’s antics are ridiculous) but it gets results. You work the ref, get the call eventually, and maybe your teamate’s free kick wins it.
Feel sorry for people who tune it all out or wave the sport away. There was lots of great soccer over the last month.
