Would you pay for a lift ticket IF....

The snow(ice) is do damn hard, you can't even plant your ski all the way into the snow? This is COMMON in southern areas.

Me: No way. I don't even ski that with my season pass. I go home if it's that bad.

11-30 jackson hole(10 inches)                      1-9 Whistler(12 inches)
                                                                  1-11 mt bactchelor(20 inches)
12-7 Vail(15 inches)                                      1-12 Mt baker(30 inches
12-10 Whistler(20 inches)

Keep your skis really sharp and you can carve on ice no problem and have a lot of fun.  I really noticed this at Hunter last weekend.  Conditions that I normally would really complain about, I was able to carve on and it was kind of fun being able to blow by all the gapers who were slipping and sliding while I was carving out good turns.  I have new skis this year and they are beyond great on hard and fast conditions.  May have to give them the ultimate test at Jay Peak.

Hehehe. What skis did you get Sno ?

The only ice I've faced that was beyond the limit for me was some days when the saddle lodge area down to foxlair at Gore, all clear ice and windswept over a very large area, side to side. It was really bad. Couldn't even go slow as it was very windy and whoosh ! along I went. Just ride it out. But I made more than one run over it so........

Skiing ice SUCKS. Who cares about having sharp edges or being able to turn in it. It's still not fun for me so I don't do it and I'm certainly not going to give someone money(a resort) to ski garbage. Period. I'm a snow connoisseur. I like au natural the best. Nice and buttery soft. Not that icy scratchy hardpack crap. I'll get a pair of ice skates and go to a ice rink if I want to slide on ice.

What he said^

Learn to touch those skis up every night, at least where there are any spots that the ski has been nicked or dulled.
Will save you a a ton of money, will make them last longer and give you a good ride every time. Stay out of the trees with them if you want to keep the edges and bases nice. Get yourself a pair of tree skis that you can beat up if you want to join all us old guys with death wishes in the trees. Those you don't have to treat so nice.
Don't ski the trees, ski the spaces between the trees.
