Wright Peak Ski Trail

This post was updated on .
Been out on my AT setup a few times now for dawn patrol...looking to expand into some actual ADK BC skiing.

I'm sure it's no secret since there's plenty of info on google...Wright Ski Trail.  Seems like a well marked, safely accessible BC route near placid.  I'm not looking to do anything too deep in at this point, that can be done in one day.

Looking for some info on how to go about it - where to park ( I know it's via Loj Rd.), trailhead info, how long I should expect it to take, how well marked is it...you get the idea...a quick run down of how a general day in and out on the trail will look like.  I'd be going with one or two other ppl, me being the most knowledgable about the area of the group, which isn't saying much when it comes to BC routes.

Also open to suggestions of other local routes, that may have easy(er) access or require less time.  Someone recently told me to look into Lyon Mt. a little north.

Not looking to have anyone's BC secrets revealed publicly, and I doubt I'm inquiring about trails that would even meet that criteria...but PM me if you'd be willing to share something, but not here directly.

Check out Dave Goodmans book on back country skiing in the NE, I believe it is described there. There is a sign on it and it is in the old ADK high peaks map

park at Adk lodge.  Skin or wax out of lodge on Van Ho trail towards Marcy at intersection with Algonquin trail take Algonquin trail.  intersection be good place to put skins on if you waxed from parking lot.  skin up Algonquin trail to intersection with wright peak ski trail.  skin up ski trail and ski right back down it.  it can be steep and narrow in sections but generally mellow.

Another shorter (less than half day option) is whale trail.  take van ho again from lodge out to marcy wetland (old marcy dam) follow trail on north side of wetland past the lean-tos and you will see whale tail ski trail.  skin up and it skis you back onto Algonquin trail.

another longer day option - van ho trail to avy pass ski trail to lake arnold trail to lake arnold cross over trail.  will bring you to Indian falls and from there its a fun ski down van ho trail

don't be shy to stop into the Adk mtn club lodge or visitor center to ask for advice
