Starting to fill in. Drifts up to my knees in spots on Quicksilver, other spots...not so much. We're maxing out water on Foxlair, all of Upper Sunway (top of AEII to Quicksilver), QS, 3B, Lower Jambo, and the nordic trails at the bowl. Wind has been killing us, hopefully it dies down soon.

Thanks for the pic Nick, I am very pumped!

It's a testament to Gore's upgrades that they can even make use of MAX WATER (<Note the capitalization).

Dropped our plow guy a note about our arrival time Thurs and he said he already plowed this am 7 inches at our place, 1900 feet.

Nick, is there any chance of a second route being open by Sunday?

I'm trying to decide between Gore and Whiteface.

Come on sno. It looks like a sprint to get that one route down for Friday and temps look borderline and air is humid for the weekend. If a second route comes on, it could be partial too.

Go to Whiteface. It will be colder all week and they got more natural snow out of this storm.

If it was me headed to Potsdam, I'd probably go to Snow Ridge, but then again I like natural snow, and I don't care about vert or slow lifts.

You'll probably be disappointed wherever you go, right?

I come up 87, and Snow Ridge is way out of the way for me.

I'll have a good time no matter where I ski, and both Whiteface and Gore can be right along the route, depending on whether I cross over at Warrensburg or Lake Placid.  I'll probably just go wherever looks to be in better shape, and I'll look at reports from both mountains before I go.

I said if it was me. I know you don't want to go there.

For the hell of it I just did it on Google maps, don't know where you live but from Mountain Creek to Potsdam, Snow Ridge adds about 30 minutes.

Sno, i guess you are staying overnight? Because making a day trip from Mt.Creek area (pretty much where I am at as well) to upstate NY areas like WF seems to be challenging.. 5 or 6h of driving back after full day of shredding sounds tantalizing, at least to me. Gore is a little closer, but still 4h oneway drive.

Can't wait to get that much needed feeling of snow under my skis this weekend but still cannot decide if it is worth driving to VT or upstate, or should I just go with crowded Hunter since they got some natural snow as well?

What would your advice be, Harvey, snoloco?

Re: Gore Conditions

I go to college in Potsdam, and I want to hit a ski area on the way back up on Sunday.

I would probably just stick with Hunter till everyone else is more opened up.

I'm in the same boat as you; probably gonna just go to Hunter this time. Gore is definitely day-trip-able though. And there are ways to do whiteface without a hotel room  for the truly obsessed.

Spongeworthy

A bit wind-scoured, but light years ahead of last season's opening week. Gore got 10" at the top, but the wind has been brutal.

Thanks snoloco! Makes sense.

Brownski, seems to be the smartest option. When do you plan on going?

Sno, not looking great for a second route by Sunday....I'll have a better idea tomorrow and then again on Friday morning when I'm back in the cat. Last night was productive and I imagine the next 24 hours will be as well as the wind dies down.  Showcase will be the second route.

Re: Gore Conditions

I stopped by today on my way south from Clarkson.  They were absolutely pounding the bottom Quicksilver (or whatever it's called down there) with every single gun on full blast.  Should be wall to wall on Sunday.  They were also blowing The Arena and had a gun at the bottom of AE2.  Nothing on the lower section of Showcase.  Maybe they started at the top, or will do so soon.  They brought all the chairs in on that lift, so it looks like they plan to have guns on Showcase soon.  Looks like lifts for this weekend will be Gondola and Sunway chair.  Not too bad.

Dicey but awesome. A foot of nice consolidated snow in the deciduous.  Marginal elsewhere. Fun as hell.
