Needless to say, I would rather have Gore wait till they have the money to build a decent lift on the Darkside rather than reusing one that has the same problems as the current one.
They might be saving the seats because they have historical ADK character. Not like the old red gondolas, but still.

I think Gore has no choice about waiting for the money.

Too bad we can't buy the old gondolas either. Last time I saw them they were dumped in parking Lot E.

Old Gondi cabins......FWIW, I've been told the ones we see here and there on people's property are under agreement with ORDA. ORDA maintains ownership while the property owner must keep the GC in a state of good repair.

You mean they were given away to select people and if they ever get in a ball of wax they have to return them.

Are they selling the triple chairs?
The original plan was to save them for future use on the Dark Side, but that may have changed. I'll see what I can find out. Locals may know, if so please chime in.
Apparently this is being discussed but has not been decided.

I asked about the gondis in the E parking lot and was told that they are all in such bad shape that they cannot be given to anyone as they are not safe to use.

ORDA just doesn't give the old red gondis away to anyone. I only see them out in front on main roads as a sort of advertisement. If you have a high-profile front yard and you promise to place it conspicuously, I'd bet that they'd give you one.

Anyway, I'm sure that red paint is full of lead, so that "safety" concern is kind of legit.

Another picture from Facebook.  The bottom terminal roof is gone.  Looks like everything is being removed carefully  and not just cut up for scrap while it was removed.  However, sometimes it is cut up after it is removed just before it is loaded onto a truck.  Still, don't get your hopes up that this appears on the Dark Side.  The hanger arms and grips were written off already as well as the cable.  They were hinting on selling off chairs to local enthusiasts at some point, but it has not been announced yet.

I spoke to someone last Friday who knows -- they've decided that nothing from the ADK Express will be used on the Dark Side.

I also got clarification on the new unloading area. It will be the same place, just lowered to grade.

They will probably cut it up just before it is loaded to be taken away.  They made the right choice not to reuse anything.  It will make removal cheaper because they do not need to worry about damaging parts.  They will also not have a lift with mismatched parts which makes it hard to maintain.  I should have taken up Harvey's bet.

The old gondola cabins that were in decent condition were all leased out to businesses (and maybe a few personal connections) for $1 and that was done years ago. The remains are in such bad condition, management will not give them out. Give up hope of getting one. Too little, too late.

There are definitely outside experts working at Gore on the ADK Express.     I know where two such out-of-towners are being housed.

Staff from Poma arrived around May 1st. Quite surprised to see the helicopter so early. Installations are often late in the off season because the US Forestry Service has first dibs on just about every helicopter of this size for firefighting. Hopefully the early demolition assures complete removal of the old tower bases...unlike the North Quad!
