NY Ski Area Closing Dates (2013)

West Mountain-4/7 (unofficial)

West Mountain's last day of skiing will be this Saturay, 3/30.  
Also, Willard's last day was this past Sunday, 3/24.

or we could start a pool on when Gore will close. My prediction is they close on 4/21 with decent snow remaining on the mountain.

Anyone think Whiteface will be open till 4/28.  I am hoping to make my season last until then and it would be great if I could close out the season at Whiteface instead of Killington or Jay Peak.

I know, it's not NY but while doing some research for my own late season skiing I've learned the following:

Cannon - 4/14/13
Jay Peak - Unknown
Killington - 4/7/13,4/14/13 & 5/5/13 (Different areas shutting down different times)
Okemo - 4/21/13
Smuggs - 4/14/13
Stratton - 4/14/13
Stowe - 4/21/12
Sugarloaf - 4/14/13
Sunday River - Unknown

The really sad thing is that all of these mountains are operating at 100% or close to it and yet they are shutting down soon.

Everyone else has either not said anything, already closed last weekend or weekends before, or is already on the list with an official closing date.

Belleayre update - this quote is straight off their website:

"We have a ridiculous amount of terrain open and conditions are amazing! We will be open through Sunday April 7. The mountain will close April 8, 9, 10 and reopen the 11th through the 14th."

They also responded to a person on facebook with the above information but also said they may considering opening after that. I hope they follow through. Ill be there.

WF just updated their website, they will be closed 4-9 through 4/11 and reopen for the weekend, actually reopen Friday 4/12 through 4/14.  Maybe with some luck they will do the same the next week and we can go til 4/21?

Called Gore today as I wanted to see what the weekday schedule was and was told they will be open this weekend, closed M-Th reopen Friday the 12th - Sunday the 14th.  With Sunday the 14th being the final day of the season.  

It seems as if the last day of skiing in NY will be 4/14.  Hopefully this is not true, but if it, is I'd love to see Hunter do extended hours until 5 and outlast everyone else including Whiteface and Gore.

Man, this was extremely long to compile Part 1 of my Annual Eastern Closing thread. I started this morning. Last year the East only had 20 ski areas left going into the first weekend of April. I could confirm over 100 ski areas for this weekend from Thunder Bay, Ontario to Labrador down to Virginia. Quebec has 48 still open, but many, like in other places will closed after this Sunday.

Last year I think it was Royal or another small area that had a shot a beating Whiteface, but ultimately WF prevailed.

This year Laz is going to spin em for an hour after WF shuts down.

Well, it could happen.

Somehow I don't think Hunter really cares about the bragging rights.

At Plattekill yesterday I asked an employee if this was it for the season.  She yelled over to Laz and asked was this it.  He responded "Not officially".  Sounds like he wants to keep those lifts spinning!

Riverc0il and I were at MRG on Saturday. The attitude there was ... maybe one more weekend. They'll make the call on Wednesday. As for my Closing Thread on my blog, I'll post Part 2 either Thursday or Friday as ski areas make their official call for next weekend.

Instead of waiting at the last moment to get all the confirmation, I decided to post it now. MRG is taking an extra day to see if they will or not. Plattekill is opening just Saturday. Many other info on Part 2 of the List.
