Apparently Oprah hasn't been paying her share of taxes.  This is her place on Thompson Road in Upcountry Maui
As you can see, the County is taking its sweet time fixing the washout in front of her house. Sucks to be her..

ATTN: TD in Maui.

Did you stop in for tea with Oprah? Looks like the kind of house where one could enjoy a civilized cuppa.

In other news, my old pal PA (AKA Peter A) is also on Maui, on a surf vacation. You know, recovering from his winter of heli ski guiding. The life.

Anyhoo, I sent him a FB message with your description and he replies:

"Will keep an eye and ear open for haoles with a Canadian twang. We are under the sunshade at Naish beach from 10 to 6 every day it is windy till we leave ( insert tear) on Wednesday."
He is into kiteboarding and surfing, not sure sure which they are doing. Look for wiry guy, our age, dark curly hair, large retro Vuarnet-style shades. Attractive blonde companion. Maui regulars for many seasons, so will have beta. Highly interesting fellow with many tales of SBR in his younger days. I think I gave him his first ski lesson.

Groms at Hamoa Beach.

We did an island circumnavigation drive today.  8 hrs.  Hana highway to Hana, then Piilani Hwy along south shore. Both roads are extremely fun to drive.

Could be, there was a reference to Kanaha in a photo on FB.

Google says yes:

"The western end of Kanaha Beach is known as Kite Beach.... The Kite beach is roughly divided into two areas, the upwind end to the east is known as "old hale beach", "Old Mans Beach". It is the area closest to the old Girl Scout pavilion structure. This area is west of the lifeguard tower, and launching and landing is done below the campground area. At the downwind end of this stretch of sand, is at "Naish" beach, and is accessed via the "Keyhole" parking area."

There's more than just the ocean to see and do in Maui.

SUP surf... Learning,  and getting better.  Up every morning for dawn patrol.  Done by 7:30 when the hordes show up.

Bon and I are going to Makawao this aft to go ride the trails.  Mountain biking is an overlooked sport in Maui...but so much potential.

We got our tickets back in Dec.  online - cheapoair.com
$750 Cdn return, Toronto/Vancouver/Kahului.  We could have saved $50 each through L.A, but there was only a 45 min transfer window.  Not worth the gamble.

Here's a pic from the other day when we drove around the island.  It's the Palapala Ho'omau Church in Kipahulu, East Maui. Pretty cool place, middle of nowhere.  You'll never guess whose grave is here..

Trees are a renewable resource, but as this was a Forest Preserve, I thought a hug was in order.  Plus it was a naked tree.

Traded the Naish 10'x33" Mana for a Surftech 9'-6"x 32" Baboa this morning.  Going to go back to the Mana tomorrow.
Not enough tail rocker on the Balboa, and a touch low on volume - 155 or so liters vs. the 185 Mana.
Pretty easy to score waves here.  Even for a telemarker!
