Aloha from Maui.

Telemark Dave
2nd morning here in Kihei, Maui.   Yesterday we settled in for our 2 week stay, and of course drove all over the place.  Can't sit still I guess.  Anyways, so much to do here - the water action sports version of Chamonix.

Best photo op of the day was in Paia - a town where a sign proclaims "Don't feed the hippies!"
How do you walk around with a full can of beer and keep your hands free?  Easy.  This guy has it down.

Memorial Day today, going to relax and do a South side beach tour.
I'll try to post a pic every day.

Don't be afraid to drive all the way around the island after you pass Hana. Go to the red sand beach near Hana , there's a sign that says no beach, but it's there and worth the hike. Have a blast

Thanks TheHof..

Yup.  We certainly planned on driving back via Kipahulu to Ulupalakua / Kula.  Probably do the Hana drive next week, it's been really wet on the Hana side this Spring,  apparently there's been many flash floods.  Going to do the Haleakala sunrise deal tomorrow AM while our time clocks are still messed.  We were up at 4:00 AM this morning.   Pre-dawn dawn patrol.

I'll say. Getting slammed by a wave with all those rocks nearby could easily be deadly.

Honu on the beach.  Came ashore, looked around and went back in.  Too many Telemarkers, I'm guessing.

That's cool. Are those green turtles (as in the species)?  You could SUP with the turtles!

View from downtown Lahaina toward the West Maui Mountains..
Lahaina is not my sort of place - too touristy-trap stylie, but this was still a cool pic.
Ukelele shop included.

If you bring one of those home, we shall have to start calling you Tele-Uke Dave.

FYI, you are missing one the worst mosquito seasons in memory. Black flies aren't too bad though.

The Mosquitos don't seem to like the wind here...

Lunchtime at Ho'okipa -  the talent that hangs in Maui is petty impressive.

Re: Aloha from Maui.

Was at Kanaha at the beginning of the week,  flat, flat, flat.  Also passed by Sprecks and Kanaha (outside reef) on a Maliko run (downwind paddle).  Maliko Gulch past Ho'okipa, Sprecks, Camp1 and Kanaha, ended in Kahului Harbour at the Canoe Club.

I have a Surf Sup rented all next week, so if Kanaha isn't breaking too big I'll probably get a session in there.  But more likely I'll be at the South and West side easy-Peasy spots.

Summit of Haleakala @ 10,000' (34F) at 5:40AM.

Sunrise was blocked by clouds.  Biggest waste of vert going.  Needs pow.

Saturday Club racing at the Kihei Canoe Club.  The Maui clubs rotate venues every Saturday.  Today was at Kihei's Maalaea Bay
location.  Sprint races for all ages, 10 - 99...
It was very cool to catch some local culture.
