My resistance to moderation is being tested. I may at least broaden our definition of what constitutes spam.

Sometimes I think PA is another forum member yanking our chain. Some of the stuff he says is just so illogical. And the last topic was so clearly intended as bait. |

The evidence doesn't suggest it an alias. Sure I could be fooled, but it would take some effort.
My previous comment wasn't pointed at anyone in particular. It not my job to moderate opinions. Without differences of opinion, forums are pointless. In the past I felt the key with moderating was to be consistent. That's one reason I barely do it... it's consistent. Another reason is I just don't have the time. But the amount of yousuck that's been posted recently makes it harder to find and enjoy the cool stuff people post. To some extent it kills the fun, for me. Because a lot of our membership is Gore/Plattekill based, I've skied with a lot of the forum members. It's kind of a interesting to me that the guys who really truly rip, don't talk much smack.

THIS^^ I find this to be true in many sports. When it comes to golf I'll let my clubs do the talking. |

Last year, during an earlier flame war, the idea was floated to limit the number of posts certain forum members could make per day. For example, if you're on the "flamer" list, you can't post more than 3 times in an hour or 6 times in a day. Maybe that idea got scuttled due to limitations in the forum software, I don't know. But perhaps its time to reconsider that idea as a way to limit the flow of vocal diarrhea that's been polluting the forum lately. Of course the other thing we all can do is simply not engage the flamers. Let their idiocy speak for itself. |

I say limit everyone to one post a week. That'd be a good start.

We've been rolling over those kinds of ideas. One idea I had was to limit ALL posters to X number of posts per day. It's not hard to see a trend - those posting the most are almost always ranting. At least it would be consistent, if not exactly fair. I tried it last week, it took a couple hours to work it out. I picked 10 posts as an arbitrary limit. The problem is that some of our most prolific posters are good contributors often posting several times a day. When Camp hit the limit the other day I killed it. Another idea is to use our spam group. This requires no real work for me. I just drop a poster into a group for suspected spammers. It limits them: Can't create new threads Can't post links Can only post 2x in a day Possible solutions: Raise the limit on spammers to maybe six posts Bag consistency and ban or temp ban people who piss me off Leave the forum as is A few people could just grow up What a pile of ridiculous horseshit huh.

Why did you leave out the obvious (and most effective)? |

Maybe create a "flamer" group similar to your spammer group. After 6 posts in a day (I'd argue for even fewer) their Reply button goes dark. I'm sure we could collectively come up with a list of candidates for the flamer group. Or if a new group can't be created, go back to the 10 posts per day limit for everyone. Might not be so bad if Campy was limited in how many times he could post "Hahaha" or "ftw." I doubt solution #4 will come to pass. |
To quote the great Noah John, "don't muzzle me man". I just think ya'll need to quit worrying about these dorks. They'll go away just as quick as they got here. These new dudes are boring any_A_ways |
