Still sounds like it went well. Selling is a real PITA but if you have it sold anywhere close to the time you settle on the new one your doing well. I’ve had houses sit for 6 months after I moved out. Now that’s a real PITA. Your in a urban Area with a pretty healthy market, unless a total crash happens you will likely do well on you new “big” house. Your cabin in the woods will probably only sell as a vacation home. That’s a much tougher market.
That's a good outlook.

I wouldn't call this area urban but the real estate market is healthy right now. The thing that always scared me is that if you buy the new house before you sell the old (which we did unintentionally) you could buy your new house at peak and be forced to sell your old after a crash.  I will sleep easier in two weeks when we are back to one house.

If you own something that you'll never sell, you really can't call it an investment. I hope to never sell the cabin.

Picked up surfing this summer!  Much easier at 1-5 than at 5-1 (yes, my youngest has been more successful), but I did get up (standing/riding a wave....so put your lame comments away) today!  Time for lessons...

i heard the surfing addiction is the strongest one..it trumps skiing /kiting /mtb

where are you learning? Coast Guard or Marconi?

I'm pretty good at windsurfing and started to kite but got side tracked by MTB

Harv I like the old kitchen, I've cooked Thanksgiving dinner in a space much smaller than that.  Agreeing with your concern about filling bigger space.  We moved into current house with a 6-wheel U-Haul box truck.  Moving out won't be so simple.

Life changes: I've made the decision.  Heading north.  I have a vague plan.  That's the problem, the plan is always vague.

Yeah, my youngest son is totally addicted already.  When he finally gets off the board I jump on for too long.....but better than skiing?  Maybe once I can stand regularly, maybe!

It is a lot of fun, will probably pick up another used (rental) board this fall.

We’ve been going to Marconi all week.  There has been a great two hours either side of low tide.  The steps are a pain at Marconi....but you don’t have to deal with the shuttle!  IIRC Marconi used to be a bit rocky (?) but not this year.

For me it is not even close - skiing trumps surfing. The fleeting moments of surfing on the East Coast make rides special, but it also makes surfing frustrating. My BIL chases waves around the world. I would rather chase powder which you can do pretty well on the East Coast without cleaning out your bank account.

I saw surfing on the North Shore of Oahu.  It was mesmerizing.  It is WAY harder than it looks to get up, even with a long board.  I can see the addiction, but I think one's proximity to either will be the differentiator.  It's not like you can have both good surf and have quality skiing near each other.

Lots of both in California.

If you get good enough and have access to consistent waves then I would agree. No turns compares to those on a clean frontside wave face or getting barreled or even semi barreled. I lived in Toms River NJ from ages 17-22 and could/would skip school and work depending swells and tides for good surf.I never got great, one of the differences is  you can ski black diamonds on a given day without incident, not that there's no risk but riding big waves can and will pummel you. I've gotten out a bit since those times but my days of chasing waves is well behind me. Without one of Kelly Slaters wave pools its too hard to time waves and life which really does make it a lifestyle for those that do

Harvey - Where was your house?  I just closed on a house in Maplewood.  I lost a few houses in multiple bid situations, but got this one for asking price - needs a lot of work though

Ain’t gonna lie.  Been starting to re-live a little Great Scott, Main Baldy, East Castle, etc., etc. via the YouTube ski porn....a little stoke building for the upcoming ski season....and it’s good and all.  However, I keep getting distracted by surfing video that hit my feed now.  My biggest regret from the summer....the hour of surf time stolen by a shark on our last day at the beach this summer.  While I know they were shit waves and no one was actually surfing, I still had visions of 10 foot waves at Marconi when Dorian passed by.  As we approach ski season....I’m thinking more of the next surfboard we are gonna buy, not about new skis.

I guess that kinda says something about the surfing bug, maybe!

On saturday I rode Mt Creek. The dirt was in primo condition, and I was in the grove. On the way home I texted JamesDeluxe. Told him today was as good as any skiing  and in some respects better..

I hate to admit it  but it was nice not freezing my ass off and paying close to 100 beans for a lift ticket..

I too will admit to this. Seems like the older I get the more I can't stand the cold. Nice thing about my sled is it has a heated seat.

Yeah, it's all good until you wipe out. I wiped off my MB at Plattekill a few years ago and had a hematoma from my ankle up to my neck. When I wipe when I am skiing there is a good chance that some of the energy will be dispersed in a slide down the mountain.

Sooo.....my daughter is currently on the left coast spending her final semester at the Emerson College Los Angeles Campus.  We are going to go out and visit her at the end of October.

Among the things we are likely to do is a drive up the PCH to see Malibu.

My wife and daughter are beach fans, they like to sit and walk on the beach.  I’m going to try to convince them we should spend a little time on the beach.  They can hang and walk.....while I get an hour and a half surf lesson.  I want to be able to surf in the Pacific!

Thanks for the recommendation.  A little pricey, lots of Lamborghini and such in the lot....but excellent.  Gorgeous.  I think we had the same table you did!

My daughter and I got a couple hour surf session in.  My new goal....surf and ski in the same trip.  It will take a Cali business trip to make that happen!

Just beautiful.  Best sunset ever.
