Surfer babe I chatted with was shocked by my bravery on that shot, not having a waterproof OtterBox on the iPhone!

Jerz, as in NJ?  Better Jersey than not at all, I s’pose.

We do our swimming/surfing on Cape Cod, so the Pacific was almost balmy by comparison, no wetsuit required!

that doesn't count, xanadu would be cheating! This bomb hit nj last December, stella was even bigger so it's certainly doable

I guess east vs. west surfing is the same as skiing.  East coast surfing can be good, it’s just good out west much more often/regularly.

I’ve also found that chasing storms can be just as tough (i.e. you may get skunked) surfing as it can prove to be skiing.

I was super disappointed Columbus Day weekend on the Cape.  Nor’easter turned subtropical kicked up big surf, but a little choppy with unfavorable onshore winds.  Nobody was surfing.  I would have, but the agreement with wifey was that I wouldn’t be the only shark bait in the water.  October is prime time for Cape shark activity.....
