A new ski resort. What a concept.

Has anyone heard of Cherry Peak Resort in Utah?

Seems old school, triple chairs, 1200 vert.

Interesting, I think they're getting another development, too, near Provo. Like a nelsap reopening type situation.

Cherry Creek looks like it's pretty far from the destination resorts, unless your destination is to find a mormon bride. Low elevation, low snow? The pics make it look like rock ski central but the terrain looks good if they get hammered and you like to hike. Otherwise, maybe the town is big enough that it'll just be a locals hill?

I wish them the best regardless.

cool, yet thin:

It's Cherry *Peak* -- Cherry Creek is an upscale suburb of Denver.

Most of the ski area will be below 6000' on a North facing slope. Snow making water will come from drilled wells.
My guess is this will be a place for those hiking into Naomi Wilderness area to BC ski. I am not sure what the laws will be on this but I suspect that since it is a federal wilderness area that BC use will be permitted.
Once on the ridge, continuing on skins for a less than a mile looks to put you into some very nice terrain although getting out down Cherry creek may be a bit of a slog.

Don't ski the trees, ski the spaces between the trees.

Probably has to do with Mormons, not working on the Sabbath.

You'd think that they would have planned for that and made sure that there were enough non-mormon workers to keep it going.  They are kissing hundreds of thousands of dollars goodbye with this policy.  I want it to succeed, but without being open on half the weekend days, it may not be in a good place.

Sno, it's the owners' beliefs in their faith, as is the same with religious Jews on their Sabaath, that it is not proper to be open for business and making a profit at all on the sabaath, regardless of who is actually working that day.

I just don't want to see a new resort go under, and I think that not being open on half of the weekends will bring them closer to that.  They are marketing having snowmaking, so that will help.  Having night skiing could raise the midweek crowds too.

They are advertising night-skiing to the metropolis next door.

Skiing on Sunday near SLC is almost like skiing on a week day except around Park City.  We went to Solitude on Sunday last Feb and parked in the 1st row at 8:45

This is not going to be a tourism driven resort so they are not relying on that and feel their target market doesn't plan to ski on Sunday

This resort is practically in Idaho. But if James is right about the terrain options the lift ticket for the uphill assist sounds like it could make for an interesting trip. I'd still like to see what their snow totals look like after five years.

I would but 0 weight on those snow numbers, it's like comparing snow in downtown SLC to Albion base at Alta.
The lat lon where these numbers were taken are from downtown Richmond not up in Cherry creek drainage.
Now with that said, they are unlikely to have the snow as the other areas. Again, I suspect that draw will be the 1500' boost it will give BC skiers.

Not quite the same comparison. Alta base at 8500 is about 4000ft higher than SLC. Richmond base is about the same as SLC at 4500 and the resort 3 miles away is about 1200 higher. Double those numbers and you still have low snow

Another reason to avoid Park City.  At first when you said how much you hate it, I thought that it was because it was like many of the mountains in Southern Vermont- all groomed, overly built up, little focus on actual skiing.  I have skied a couple of the mountains in Southern Vermont, and although these things are true, I never found that they really made the experience bad.  However, I later found out that the reason you hate Park City is because of something that I hate in ski areas as well.  That would be the fact that it takes 5 lifts to get to the Jupiter pod, and 4 lifts to get to McConkey's Bowl.  I also don't like it when places are overcrowded and I would rather deal with one crowded day than 2.  Coach, your hate for Park City seems more rational every day.

Sno the thing to remember is that the easier the access the faster the terrain gets skied out.

It's one reason why some of us really like Gore.  There are some (minor IMO) access hurdle here and there that help snow quality. How many runs accessed by slopeside highspeed six packs have untracked snow 2 hours after a dump?

Back on topic ... how much annual snow does Cherry Peak get? Sorry I'm a dork, I couldn't figure it out from the chart.
