Now that my home Mt is closed ,I added up my cost per ski day with my season pass. I used for 30 days for a total of 22 dollars a day. Gas cost about $8 a trip. Spent around $6 on food. Skied around 5 hours per day for a total of 36 bucks a day and 7 dollars a hr. Reasonable cost for some great family fun and healthier than the Movies or Bowling.
Don't yell at me for trying to call for the end of the season, I don't want it to end either.

Generally, I get paid when I'm skiing or ski for free somehow, but I've paid for a few lift tickets and PSIA events this year. The bar tab and gas are usually my biggest expenses when I go to the mountain.
I think I'm still in the black for the season, though, which is pretty good for me. |
At 70 yrs of age my costs are dirt cheap .
one season pass was $149 and got another mtn season pass for free with free reciprocals . so my per day cost was under $6 , my gas since there are several of us who share costs about $3 a trip and we brown bag so.....UNDER a Sawbuck a day !! We ski WF and Gore for $38 Aaaany day too, such a deal and one of my reciprs gives me a $20 day at either of them once a month See keep yourself in great shape guys cuz the BEST is yet to come !

Wow!
I doubt I spend $20/day since I rarely buy a ticket and I live close. When I do ski lift served I can usually get a tic for a 6 pack of premium beer or a fifth of Jim or Jack depending on the individual.

Believe it or not me and my ski partner did 2 long distance day trips this year also. I really wanted to try Hickory and finally the weather worked for us. Also a day trip to Gore cause that's were the snow was and he's never been there. Skiing is my passion during the winter, so we do what's needed.

Creek is closing tomorrow. My cost per day factoring in today and tomorrow is $4.59. I will have gone 59 times and my pass cost $270.
For Hunter, I will have gone 20 times assuming an April, 13 close. This results in a cost per day of $15 since I will have gone 20 times and my pass cost $300.
I've lived in New York my entire life.

I'm not going to give any numbers for our 2013/2014 season, but you will have a sense. (Some of these are capex and can be amortized over a few seasons)
--new Head Rev 85s for me from SkiHaus in Brewster/Poughkeepsie --new Rossi Temptations for the oldest and middle daughters --new boots for the oldest daughter --rental boots for the middle daughter --new ski pants for the oldest daughter --new helmet for the middle daughter --new poles for the youngest daughter --Ski3 passes for me and the 3 girls --4 nights at Summit Townhomes over President's Day at Gore (only used 2 due to blizzard and family scheduling snafus) --2 rooms 2 nights at Garnet Hill mid-March Nowhere near enough skiing to justify this in any sane budgeting process! Somehow Scotty I saw you as more of a byo flask guy. Still avoiding the question posed by the OP. Just take the entire cost of my life and divide it by my ski days.

I'm liking that thought Harv. I'm with you. In winter, skiing is part of life. Shelter, food, skiing....it's all necessities. So how much did I spend? Do I factor in opportunity cost? Who knows. BTW, still good skiing up here in the hinterlands...ski areas have all but closed, not for lack of snow, but lack of people. Still 2 feet minimum on the ground. Gotta go earn some turns... TD (And the 2' of snow is not April Fools...)

He is not from New York State, and in fact, doesn't even ski there very often. He is also obsessive-compulsive about Voile Charger BC's.

I thought about that too, and decided that whenever I am on the hill, opportunity cost equals zero. Petronio |
