I've been having Telemark boot troubles (stuck in walk mode), and I was thinking about ordering a backup pair of boots. The out of commission boots are 2012, so about 100 days on them I'd guess. The new boots would be a stiffer model (TX Comp vs. TX Pro), so I could use them mostly for resort days and use my other comfy boots for backcountry (I realize I'm trying to justify something here).
I've always had a few pairs of skis, so if one is broken, I can switch. I had never thought of doing it for boots (even though I have broken multiple pairs of Alpine and Tele boots). Basically, I guess I'm asking, should I buy new ski boots? Does anyone else use multiple boots? |

I do. But really they are my old boots. T2s.

Yeah, I keep around my old Tele boots, but unfortunately, they aren't compatible with the NTN.

Good question. I have backups for everything but boots - skis, goggles, helmets, poles, gloves, jackets, shells, bibs, etc. - because buying a replacement mid-season can be expensive, let alone whether it's even possible. I've been worrying about boots lately for just that reason.

My backup tele boots are alpine boots. And vice-versa. Well, there are also the old Merrell lace-ups but that might be stretching i on the Sick Birds.

I actually ski in two different alpine boots. A race type on firmer snow days and a Panterra 120 to teach in and for softer snow days and in spring. On my stiffer skis I like the race boot better and vice versa. I started doing it last year and think I will continue. I have skied in both already this year.
I just move my footbed between them. The are within a mm different in sole length so I don't need to adjust my bindings.

I have kept my old alpine boots and my old AT boots but I have no intention of ever using them again. Though I can't bring myself to chuck them "just in case" I need them in a pinch. I would never purchase a "backup pair" though.

You need to tell the GMD to get you a bigger room so you have room for more skis. I'm not buying backup boots... These are my "new" boots... Yeah, that's the ticket... |

See, that's the problem. |

I don't have a pair of backup boots, but I both ski and snowboard, so if one of my sets of equipment is messed up, I can use the other till it is fixed.

Change frightens me... |
It's the $ flipping for boots and binders at the same time that frightens me

I do follow him on those platforms, and I appreciate the work he's done, and I met him at a ski movie in Albany, and he seems like a good guy... But no way am I paying $700 for boots. That's insane. I wouldn't pay that even if I didn't get my "special" pricing. Yeah, the equipment cost of converting to NTN has really been rough over the last few years, but now that I have 2 sets of bindings (3 soon) and 2 pairs of boots (I ended up buying them), I should be set for the forseeable future (knock on wood). |

That's where it all starts. I got my bindings and skins for my new ski but I need another set of bindings for my other new ski and an alpine boot to drive them and kinda want to get a 3 pin fish scale tele setup but that would need new boots and there's a nice skate ski track that goes up the summer road but it's almost biking season and I need a new back brake but living outta the 'Rester is so tight so I'll probably need a van but they're hard to find in 4wd but what about a biodiesel conversion...? Life is hard.
