Ethan - don't be sour dude.  I'm just wondering what areas outside our big parks people really like.  Small or big, some of them are nice spots.

Ok, I listed my three favorites. I will list them again.

1. Gilbert Lake State Park (Laurens NY)
2. Glimmerglass state park (Cooperstown NY)
3. Homer Folks state forrest (Oneonta NY)

Yeah I'm not sure what people classify as CNY, but I generally think of the Cortland area over to the Cats as being CNY.

As far as the rednecks with guns... I'm just as much a hillbilly as they are, just I choose to go about it differently.  I don't carry guns, but honestly, in all my travels, I've never had a person with a gun bother me.

I've run into curmudgeons like the guy I mentioned earlier everywhere from my hometown to the Adirondacks, but I've never let them bother me.

They don't really "bother me" either, they just put a damper on my adventure. The northern Catskills is the worst in that regard. It seems to me that there is less of that in the eastern ADK which is where I spend quite a bit of time.

Are you familiar with any of the places I listed?

Let me put it this way, every time I venture off into some unknown forrest in CNY, I generally run into a redneck with a gun who is very put out that I was on his property. IMO, most of CNY is made up of shitty small towns that are relatively close together, and most of the land in-between them is private farm land. But, like I said, there are a FEW nice places, and nice State forests, but they are not abundant. I think maybe we are talking about a different CNY. I am talking about the divide between the ADK, and the Cats, while I think you are talking about the finger lakes region which I can not speak for.
We are completely talking about a different CNY:

State Forests within an aprox 20 min drive of my house, 2 of them are in my back yard.

Hoxie Gorge -- 2115 acrea
Kennedy -- 4422 acres
Taylor -- 4638 acres
Tuller -- 2440 acres
Morgan -- 5284 acres
Baker School -- 1277 acres
Cuyler -- 5507 acres
Griggs -- 2365 acres

Thanks, never been to any of those.  Homer looks a fun place for a day ride.

Most of places I've been in CNY are in between 81 and Rt 12, or south of Cortland.  The places camp listed actually...

He's got a 10,000 acre one in his backyard. I'd like to see the hike across that in a 1/2 hr in flip flops

LOL, we recently confirmed that we are discussing two different CNYs. Although, I once climbed Slide Mountain in the Catskills with a few friends, and one of then did wear flip-flops, and made the whole trip.

Snow looks a little thin for my taste, but I like the glade

This place used to be virtually unknown until recent years, now it's wildly popular:

Definitely way too thin. That's the most snow we had all year. Working on getting snowmaking in there hopefully this year. Definitely on the front.

Is GP all DH or is it XC biking too?

My bike (and the rider) can't handle DH MTB.

My understanding is one of the new trails they're building is XC. I haven't personally checked them out yet so don't take that as 100%
