No worries.

Full disclosure. My father(taught over 30 yrs, never took a sick day and was the best teacher I ever had), two sisters, 1 aunt, 1 uncle, and 6 cousins are all teachers. We go back and forth all the time at family functions. I couldn't resist.....

Yes, there are plenty of teachers who hide behind their union contracts, show up as late and leave as early as their contract allows, who don't do a lick of planning or work over nights, vacations and summers, who don't go above and beyond and pretty much just collect their paycheck.  Those teachers suck....and they do have the summers off and are well paid for the crappy work they do.  It's unfortunate those teachers exist, and I'm just here to make sure people know that not all teachers are created equal, and many are underpaid and overworked, and the country is a better place because of them....that's alls I'm sayin!

Camp.....I think the people who live with the teachers and see what the good ones do are more passionate when the argu, er....discussion comes up than the teachers themselves, who just persevere and suffer through their calling!

Longevity of a career is not justification for any particular salary, I don't get the correlation.
Whether teachers make enough, not enough, or too much is not the point. My point was that an inspiring teacher has more value in my opinion than a MMA athlete.
Those involved in high risk short term careers I'm sure would disagree with you.

On your second point, well I certainly would agree with your statement.  However, when in the history of the world has compensation been based on society value?  We would most definitely live in a much more enlightened world if this was true.

On your third point (the demeaning one), I learn differently so my opinion on teachers maybe shaded.  I apologize if I offended the teacher crowd.  However sir, there this no need to feel sorry for me.  I always knew I learned differently and adjusted accordingly.  And I was most fortunate to have inspirational family members surround me and therefore never needed a teacher to inspire me.
If duration and risk are the factors we should use for compensation a Miner in China or a front line soldier should be some of the highest paid people on the planet.

Again, I was not arguing for more or less pay for teachers. If anything, I was balking at where society has driven salaries of some professional athletes and you can add to that the Kardashians.

The fact that you learn differently than others and that you never had a teacher that was able to adapt to your learning style and provide an inspiration is a pity.

Re: Holly Holm

witch hobble
The whole thing takes on weird cognitive dissonance for me.

As a father of daughters, I like to think of myself as forward thinking and a champion of equality.  But my negative visceral reaction to women violently engaged in bloodsport exposes my reactionary default to the patriarchy.  I guess I'm really a prude clutching my pearls and worrying for their wombs or something.

It's a weird manifestation of the "you can be anything a boy can be" idea.

A Kardashian is a genetically modified bacteria typically used in chemical warfare where the intent is to leave your enemy brain dead. Unfortunately it was released on the American public where it has mutated and infected millions.
