I just saw and posted on the same topic in a different forum. :D
Going a quick count (helps having a good memory), I believe I'm somewhere between 125-135. It also helps to keep track of your ski days since 1981-82, however that list is at home. Off the top of my head, I would have the exact number (except Quebec, because I would have been very young for some of those ski areas. Started keeping track at 16yrs old and had been skiing Tremblant regularly at that point). Outside Quebec numbers are probably correct: Canada BC : 4 AB : 5 ON : 2 QC : between 42-52 US NY : 3 (Whiteface, Titus, Snow Ridge) VT : 7 NH : 9 ME : 2 WV : 2 :D WA : 2 OR : 2 CA : 1 MT : 3 WY : 3 UT : 2 CO : 2 France : 14 Switzerland : 4 Italy : 2 Austria : 1 Chile : 7 Argentina : 6 With the exception of France (with one area in Italy) and Western Canada, I had never skied any other area outside the East until 2003. First time in the US West in June 2005. I do like to go on ski safari...i.e. more than one ski area in one trip like 13 ski days at 8 ski areas in 13 days from Montana to Utah back in 2006.

In this game, it helps being old. I'll start with Quebec , where I learned to ski. And I won't add in the XC areas (sorry Peter M).
Canada - QC: Mt. Riguad, Mt. Gabriel, Avila, St. Sauveur, Vallée Bleu, Mt. Avalanche, Mt. Christie, Chantecler, Mont Alta, Mont Alouette, Mt. Tremblant, Grey Rocks, Camp Fortune, Edelweiss, Vorlage, Mont Cascades, Le Massif (on the bus), Orford, Owl's Head and a couple of others I can't remember the names of. Oh, and of course, Mt. Beaconsfield, the golf course where I learned to ski. We'll call it 21. In the course of trying to remind myself of names, I found this great article on the early history of Quebec skiing and NELSAP resurrection: http://skicanadamag.com/2008/05/25/travel/closed-runs ON: Hidden Valley, Sir Sam's, Mt. Madawaska, Mt. Pakenham, Calabogie Peaks, Horseshoe Valley, Medonte (now called Heights of Horseshoe), Devil's Glen, Osler Bluff, Georgian Peaks, Blue Mountain, Chicopee, Glen Eden, Curlew (NELSAP), Mt. St. Louis-Moonstone, Talisman, Devil's Elbow, Earl Bales Park (lift-served skiing in downtown Toronto!), Hockley Valley, Mansfield, Skyloft: 21 NB: Crabbe Mountain: 1 AB: Sunshine Village: 1 USA - CA: Northstar: 1 NY: Whiteface, Titus: 2 VT: Jay Peak, Stowe, Mad River Glen: 3 NH: Cannon, Wildcat, Attitash: 3 Total: 53

I would rather say: 1) it helps being experienced versus old. Skied 45 seasons and I'm still a few years from 50th birthday. 2) It helps starting in Quebec as a kid and living in or next to the Laurentians (probably the greatest concentration of ski areas in North America). There used to be close to 50 in the Laurentians alone back 30-40 years ago. The current count of Quebec ski areas stands at approximately 84. It used to be at 110 in 1980. My official count since 1981-82 is 127 (added last year and this season: NH 2, PNW 3 and WV 2). 41 of those being in Quebec. So you can definitely add 4 (total of 131 ski areas), 3 maybes (134) and a few others that I might have skied when I was real young. However you can add a few hills, those I clearly remember skiing at Beaver Lake on Mt-Royal, Mt-Laval, Sun Valley, Mt. Faustin (that was taken over by Mt. Blanc), I think I might have skied at Rigaud (where SBR skied), vague memories of Mt. Echo...even more vague Rougemont(?). There were 3 or 4 a few rope-tow/t-bar operated ski hills that were located on the island of Montreal and operated by the City of Montreal Parks + the University of Montreal ski hill. There are also a few lost Laurentians areas or in the Eastern Townships that I might have skied when I was real young. I don't specifically remember skiing at those areas, but it would have been when I would have been prior to me turning 7. I didn't read the article, but that list is terrible. That list is so incomplete. Here is my post from 2004 on the Quebec ski forum. List of Quebec ski areas closed between 1981 and 2004. You can add a few since I posted the list. http://www.zoneski.com/forum/index.php/topic/194-ssa-hommage-a-celles-qui-sont-maintenant-oubliees/page__st__30#entry25753

BTw, nice padding your numbers James. I haven't skied at 4 of your 17 ski areas in Quebec, however there is a remote chance that I skied Shefford as a young kid. Pretty we never skied at La Réserve as it would have been a difficult day trip from Montreal back in the early 1970s (and I might have remembered if we stayed there).
