How much would you pay to park (not premium parking)

As part of Eldora’s comprehensive PLAY FOREVER sustainability initiative, we are making changes to address the traffic and congestion issues that affect our guests on peak-visitation days during the mountain’s winter operating season. Eldora is motivated to address traffic and congestion to protect the environment, to improve the guest experience, and to improve access on peak visitation days (weekends, holidays, and TBD weather-driven high-visitation days between 12/15/18 and 4/14/15).

Changes include the following:
FREE PARKING - COME WITH THREE, PARK FOR FREE! Every day of the season, vehicles carrying three or more passengers to Eldora will park for free. On most non-peak-visitation days—roughly 70% of the season—any vehicle, no matter how many passengers, will also park for free. LEARN MORE

FREE RTD BUS PASSES - Eldora will provide free bus day passes (good for round trip on the N Route) to all riders on the 8:10 AM and 10:10 AM RTD N Route buses from Boulder Transit Center (1800 14th St) to Eldora on certain Saturdays and Sundays through the peak season. This offer will initially take place on 12/8–9 and 12/15–16, with additional weekends to be determined. LEARN MORE

PAY PARKING - On peak-visitation days—Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and to-be-determined high-traffic week days between December 15 and April 14—vehicles with fewer than three occupants will be required to pay a per-vehicle parking fee of $20 at a parking payment kiosk or through a smartphone app. LEARN MORE

It is our hope that these new initiatives will encourage all of us to work together to address congestion and emissions and help protect the places we love to play.

Now, all of their possible customers are thinking "gee, I'd sure like to go to Eldora for a few runs, but that pain in the ass rule means that I need to find two friends to avoid having to pay for parking. Even if I take my electric car, they will still dock me $20 on top of my lift ticket price"

Yea - I can see that it would be real hard for you to find two friends, do you have 2 friends? Do you have 1?

Actually it's a great move for ski families if it isn't really a destination resort.

I’d be pissed if it was my home hill. It’s enough to make me pick somewhere else to ski at.

Incentives would be a great move for ski families, punishing customers for not having enough people in a vehicle doesn’t help anyone but the ski area to make more money.

So I take it nobody is buying their claim that this is, essentially, an environmentally friendly change, one aimed at having fewer greenhouse gas emitting vehicles fouling the mountains on busy days?

I guess follow it and see how it plays out.  I'm not really that much into ski area GM or financials but I would have to guess they must feel like they have a good customer base to even attempt something like this.

Also, do we know the whole story?  Were they charging $20 to everyone before on peak days?

Perhaps they are having parking issues and this is one way to deal with it?

I looked at the map and they are out in the middle of nowhere, but still not far from Boulder and Denver.  Perhaps the road up there gets all jammed up on busy days?

Maybe parking is now a limiting factor on skier visits and they are looking for a solution?  Happens to encourage less driving so marketing jumped on it. Unanticipated cost of mega pass?

Nah - if they were really concerned they would have offered free bus shuttle service to a local park and ride.
Just like other people in the industry, they just want to make a buck any way possible.
