I skied Hunter today too..Was on the lift at 9am..Butt cold but imo some to of the best conditions i have experienced at hunter in my 40 yrs skiing there..Obviously after a nice storm it would be great too, but the trails were like velvet and the machine made snow on Ike's was down right powder..Blowing when it's in the single digits helps.

The pass pick up line was ridiculous, I would have been pissed too..

When Harv says that something is "firm" or "so so" -- flashing warning signs and loud alarm bells should be going off in your head.

Just got home.  This was a great day, on manmade, after a gully washer. With nobody there, I enjoyed the high speed lifts.

Jason if you are thinking of going tomorrow, go. Ski the east side.  It was deserted and the snow was excellent.

North and west need farming. East was incredible. I can't remember wanting to lap Belt. Cliff was maybe the best.

Ran into snoloco and snodad at the ribbon cutting.

The crowd was pumped. They were cranking the Led Zep from the tee shirt tent.

An interesting discussion today that relates to this and the Powder Magazine article. I've decided that that I'm going to take a more direct approach, essentially taking Harv's Disclaimer to a new level. I may run this under my pieces:

I’m thinking of doing a day trip to hunter this Friday.  What type of crowds should I anticipate?

Every lift was ski on today..I have to imagine Friday will be similar or close to it..

Clair's had monster whales the entire trail. I would imagine that will get groomed out in the next couple of days and it will be epic..

I made it Hunter today.  Conditions were excellent considering the lack of natural snow.  This was my first time there, so I wasn’t familiar with the trails.

I parked at Hunter North, rode the new six pack up and skied down to the main base area.  Nice carveable packed powder everywhere.

Next, I skied Claire’s way.  This was borderline icy and got skied off quickly.  K27 was the run of the day.  Packed powder that nicely bumped up as the day went on.

I liked the new north area.  There was a nice variety of trails all with excellent coverage.  There were never any lines on the new six pack either, so it made for some fast laps to rack up some vertical.

Here’s a couple of pics I took:

Hunter was surprisingly not crowded this morning. A couple of inches overnight was fun to ski. Only five or six of us lapping Clairs. .           Westway needs a good 2 footer to open.

Digging the new terrain so much..
I can slip out for lunch - grab 5 or 6 runs and be back in just about an hour..
I used to hate slipping out for turns and getting involved in the front face parking etc...
This is a game changer for me. Empty lot - empty chair - empty trails..  Sunny skies!!!!

And the right side of Overlook is my jam now..   Including the rock drop...

One of the better days at Hunter. Even though it was a busy Saturday, I never waited more the a few mins for a chair and sometimes ski on..Like everywhere in the North East , conditions were spot on..

Re: Hunter Conditions

I just heard another skier died at Hunter. That is the 3rd one this year. All on the new terrain. The North Side trails are no joke. Steep and  wide and fast as hell. They are also right off one of the busiest beginner/intermediate trail on the mountain.
I think the mountain is going to have to change the ratings to expert only.

On a side note this past Saturday while I was eating lunch, I watched this 20 something kid but a six pack of beer in various pockets of his ski pants...This has to stop too..

Apparently the skier who died was an expert.
