Man, that is sad news. I’m sorry. Don’t worry though. Once you run out of money they’ll probably kick you out

I’d like to know a little more about what Warp actually knows about Disney, and what experience has led him to that angry conclusion, before I opine on how good his post might be!

Me too. I could use a little expansion/ clarification on that one.

I resisted going to Disney as long as I could, and it was based on an impression I had, no actual experience.

There are other things I have summarily dismissed, primarily cruising. But cruising I have been able to dodge. Disney I was kinda forced a few years ago.

It was ok, but i wouldn't do it again, not my idea of fun.  Not a fan of the way the meal plan worked, the crowds, the paying to cut the lines, the over the top consumerism.

The best part is that your kid is smiling. I also liked the way they sprayed you with mist while you were waiting in the heat. They made a good effort to reduce the negative aspects of hours of waiting in line, giving you shade in places, ceiling fans, and some mild entertainment.

Full disclosure my father in law paid for the whole thing, including the cruise I passed on. So I probably didn't have any right to be bummed about the cost, but I was.

Over priced , little. To no value added , transitory benefit , over hyped schlock that preys on parental guilt and c aters to unrealistic expectation.

The entire ambiance is worthless IMHO

Again Simply Much better and lasting values to be had with other activities .

Sorry Warp, but that last post is as devoid of substance and detail as the first one on Disney!

At least you added an IMHO in there....because you do seem to be passing a general value judgement on Disney based purely on your individual opinion,  as well as your personal likes and dislikes.  That’s cool, all opinions are valid!

I was hoping you might have given us a little more.  Like, maybe explain how Disney, in providing 16 hours a day of rides, shows and entertainment for $100, is any more overpriced than a ski resort providing 7 hours a day of lift access to slopes for the same $100....

Honestly, they are probably both overpriced!

Just to let you know, having a ball down in this hell hole. Between walking a mile to EVERYTHING in humid 90 degrees weather with a sea of people.... All the while DISNEY trying to get into my wallet at every turn..... Yeah this is the life 😩

After one Day we’ve decided to spend most of our time at the pool and do 2 1/2 hours a day fighting parks. Only good thing is the bars are conveniently located right next to all pools, but then there’s the wallet thing at $15 a drink 😩
Hey, it could be worse...you could be down there during ski season!!

I agree, Warp. I used to like Disney until I went last year with my girlfriend, her daughter, son-in-law, and 2 & 4 yrs old.
It is over priced, overcrowded, and just a relentless marketing machine. I'm amazed at how many people don't even realize how much they are being "sold". And now you see so many of those Jazzy scooters clogging the place up. Some for people who are incapacitated but most who are just grossly obese and too fat and lazy to walk.

In other news, Disney Skyliner Gondola Malfunctions

Junior’s senior trip is to Disney, later this month. 150-200 teenagers + 30 chaperones sounds like a nightmare to me but they’ve been running this trip for years so I guess they know what they’re doing.

You should take your daughter there once. Once is enough but every kid should go at least once. I have taken each of mine there when they were in grade school, 3 days is plenty and they will remember it.

Disney is best for ages 5-12 IMHO.  There are many reasons Ages 4 and under are free.  I certainly never forgot my day at Disney Land when I was six long ago as part of travels driving around the west with my family.

More fun with a couple of compatible kids than a solo kid.  Since we only have the one kid, we went to Disney with my niece who likes theme parks (my brother hates them) or one of my daughter's friends.  Only 1 day each trip.  Did other stuff in the area while staying at my husband's timeshare resort, often just hanging out at a resort pool.  She ended up liking Sea World a lot more.

Can't imagine being a chaperone for 150-200 high school seniors anywhere!  If anything, Disney might be easier because they have to leave well before midnight.  No matter what lodging, it's a long walk from Disney so there is an incentive to find the free transportation that's part of the group arrangements.

The Moms have taken her to Disney Land. I’m off the hook. I can’t afford those sorts of trips really so we prioritize and go skiing. Crowds and lines give me anxiety. I prefer quiet and solitude on my free time.

You guys/gals sometimes forget that I live a different lifestyle. The things that are routine and normal in your world aren’t a thing in mine.

Re: I want you all to know...

If I never go to a Disney Park again I would be happy and I’m from a family that has fully bought into the Disney culture. My memory of our first visit was thinking that the rides weren’t any better then what was at Storytown but my parents dragged me back a bunch of times after that. The last time I was to celebrate a big anniversary when I was in my 20s so it just turned into a pool/water park and heavy drinking trip. Lots of Mai Tais and single malt.
I did get both my kids there at least once- felt obligated.  Junior is more looking forward to their one day at Universal then Disney. After all the scary big roller coasters he’s been on, It’s-a-small-world doesn’t impress.
I’m sure going with his class will make it fun though. Hopefully they all stay out of trouble.

I resisted but finally went.  Kids who dont go are fine, and possibly better off.  Parents  certainly.
